About Mai Vietnamese cuisine Oxford. UK
Mai Vietnamese cuisine is a restaurant at 198 Banbury Rd in Oxford, cooking from family recipes handed down through generations. The menu is built around pho, including a beef brisket pho, and bánh xèo, which comes in a pork and prawn version. Bún chả and beef vermicelli dishes sit alongside spring rolls and summer rolls for those who prefer lighter plates. To drink, the kitchen makes homemade lemonade and serves Vietnamese coffees, among them an iced coconut coffee. Alongside the main menu, a set menu and a specials menu give diners more ways to order.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the bánh xèo, the pork and prawn version in particular, along with the pho, and describe the cooking as authentic, fresh and full of flavour. Close behind are the spring and summer rolls, bún chả, bún bò Huế, and beef vermicelli, while the homemade lemonade, nước mắm and Vietnamese iced coconut coffee get their own praise. Staff are described as lovely, helpful and welcoming, and the food and drinks are said to arrive quickly. Several reviewers mention the decor and an outside sitting area. The recurring complaint is portion size. Two reviewers call the portions small for the price, and another found less meat in the pho bowl than at a franchise restaurant in Westgate. One diner also wanted the bún bò Huế spicier. Even so, most say they plan to return, with a few eyeing the set menu and specials menu.

“Tried the new Vietnamese restaurant at Summer Town for dinner. The food was delicious, fresh, and full of flavour. Everything we ordered tasted really good, although the portions were on the small side, especially considering the price. Our total bill was £64, including a 12.5% service charge and two sparkling waters. Overall, we enjoyed the food and the experience, but I think the portions could be more generous for the price.”
