About Rose & Crown PH
Rose & Crown PH is a traditional British pub in Oxford at 14 N Parade Ave, a 10 to 15 minute walk from the pubs in the central area. The bar pours cask ales and ciders from local breweries, including Tring, Vale and Hook Norton, and the kitchen turns out pub food such as pies. Inside, quotes on the walls add to the old-pub character. The rear garden and courtyard hold live jazz, and a glass skylight roof is drawn across when it rains, with heating under the chairs, so the music carries on in wet weather. The pub describes itself as a public house that specialises in real ale.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the beer, praising a good range of cask and local ales and ciders alongside a wide variety of other drinks. Food comes close behind, with the Sunday roast described as tasty with reasonable portions, one reviewer recommending the pies, and several calling the pub food very reasonably priced. The covered rear garden gets repeated mentions, with a skylight roof drawn when it rains and heating under the chairs. Those who came for the Sunday night jazz describe a lively atmosphere. Many mention a friendly team and a warm welcome, including a man taken to be the owner who wished departing guests a safe journey. The main complaint comes from one reviewer served warm beer, who says the manager called it cellar temperature and said a replacement would have to be paid for. Another notes the pub gets crowded on Friday evenings. One diner's food arrived wrong and was quickly rectified.

“Lovely pub run by a friendly team! It’s got some of the best vibes in town, especially on Sunday nights when they have jazz. Highly recommend!”

“Ordered beer and dinner and the beer was warm! I've returned maybe 2 beers in the last 30 years, but warm! The bartender was about to exchange it for me and the manager jumped in told me it was cellar temperature and I'd need to pay for another. We've been to about 6 other pubs in the past week and have been asking about cellar temperature and making sure that we are getting cold beer, and all the bartenders are laughing at us 🤣 We are staying for two weeks on this street and have gone to Gardener Arms since, way better service and atmosphere. Don't bother going to Rose and Crown, go to Gardener Arms for a way better experience”

“Very brief visit this evening following a long day but so pleased we did stop by. Excellent choice of cask and encouraging to see Tring, Vale and Hook Norton local breweries represented. Beautiful pub inside and under the glass roof. Lovely gentleman [assuming proprietor and/or landlord] wishing us a lovely evening and safe onward journey as we left 💖. We shall definitely be returning when firing on all cylinders! Thank you team 🙏”

“Really nice place. I really liked the ambience, the quotes on the walls, and the great variety of beverages.”

“R&C is one of my favourites pubs in Oxford because it's not too crowded (most of the time, except for Friday evenings especially), it's not central, it has an old pub feel to it and good seating outdoors with a skylight roof that is drawn when raining. There's also heating under the chairs outside. The draft beer selection is good (not too adventurous) and the food can be very tasty if you like pub food (I recommend their pies).”
