About The Greyhound

Hand-pulled real ale sits at the centre of The Greyhound, a pub on Aughton Street in Ormskirk with an old interior left unchanged over the years. The cask range stays limited, with traditional bitter pulled at the bar. Letting rooms on site mean visitors can stay the night rather than travel on after last orders. The bar runs on conversation rather than entertainment, and locals and regulars fill it. Doors open daily and drinks are ordered at the bar, with no booking taken, so you can turn up and find a seat as one comes free. A step-free entrance means visitors with mobility needs can get inside, and seating outside gives room for drinking in the open air. Dogs come in alongside their owners.

Customer Review Summary

The unchanged traditional character draws the most comment: reviewers describe a very old interior where conversation is king, a log fire, and hand pulled traditional bitter by the pint. Close behind, the staff and landlords come up repeatedly as friendly and helpful, with several saying nothing was too much trouble. Also mentioned are cheap pints compared with city prices, some outdoor seating, a good vodka and coke, and letting rooms one guest found cosy, clean and fresh. The condition of the place is the recurring complaint, and it draws real weight: several call it run down, musty, dark inside and in need of refurbishment and new carpets, while two report dirty glasses and beer that was off. One reviewer who stayed overnight describes the accommodation as grotty and not clean, with old plates and dishes left in the room, and another notes only one real ale was available. Warmer accounts return to the staff going out of their way to make a family birthday get-together work.

Went to 70th there, very old pub, the atmosphere was lovely we were with family and friends, and the locals in the pub were lovely. Just a relaxing. Lovely time, a very old interior but great 👍 staff, so nice really helpful and would go out of their way to make my sisters birthday a great get-together ŵill definitely go again.
  • David Murphy
Rather glum and musty pub. Only accepts cash. Only one real ale available. Seen better days. Don't think it will see many more which is a pity as apart from the general air of neglect it looks quite quaint.
  • Ayla
Could have been a pleasant experience in a small traditional pub but place was run down and not very clean, glasses were dirty, beer was off.
  • Jonathan
If you like proper trad pubs which haven’t changed in years and conversation is king, here’s one. A real friendly place.
  • Andy Stratford
The staff were great, just the place is in need of sprucing up, it was very dark inside. The accommodation was down in the grotty section, very cheap but not clean, old plates and dishes left in the room.

How this listing is sourced

Where the data comes from
Name, address, hours, contact details, amenities, ratings and review counts come from the business's publicly available profile data — not from the owner and not from paid submissions.
How it stays current
Listings are re-checked in batches against their public profile, and anything reported as wrong is corrected at the source rather than patched on the page.
How it is ranked
Placement is never sold. Every business on the page is ordered and compared using the same public signals, so an owner cannot pay to move up.
