About tamatanga

Tamatanga is an Indian restaurant and cocktail bar in The Cornerhouse on Trinity Square, in Nottingham city centre. The Bottomless Thali brings several small curry dishes to the table on trays, like curry tapas, and diners can re-order as much as they like. Lamb is among the thali items. The wider menu covers curry, rice, naan and sides, with Punjabi Butter Chicken and Paneer Makhani among the dishes to share. The bar pours cocktails, wine and Cobra beer by the pint, and the bottomless brunch has the server keeping drinks flowing. A private dining room is available for groups. Peak times can get busy, and dishes do not always arrive together.

Customer Review Summary

Reviewers most often point to the bottomless Thali, which one describes as curry tapas, with small portions of several dishes that can be reordered. Diners call it tasty and generous, and one notes the lamb actually tasted like lamb. Bottomless brunch comes up close behind, with reviewers praising the food and the drinks that kept flowing. Others mention a rich, nicely spiced curry, soft naan with a good char, refreshing cocktails and a two for one cocktail deal alongside a pint of Cobra. Servers earn repeated praise as friendly, attentive and helpful with drink recommendations, and a few describe them looking after birthday and job celebrations. The main caveat is pace and polish. One reviewer says service can feel rushed or slightly uncoordinated at peak times, with dishes not always arriving together, and another finds the food okay but a bit lackluster for Indian cuisine. One diner who arrived at 4:30pm found the place nearly empty at first, then watched it fill, and left stuffed after a full Thali tray.

“Had a great experience at tamatanga for bottomless brunch! The food and drinks were fantastic, and the service made the experience even better. A special mention to Tania, our main server, who was absolutely brilliant throughout. She was friendly, attentive and made sure we were well looked after, keeping the drinks flowing and creating a really welcoming atmosphere. Would definitely recommend and will certainly be returning. Thanks again to Tania for making it such an enjoyable experience!”

“Although we were the only ones in at first (4:30pm) it started to fill later. We had the bottomless Thali, and I have to say, it was WONDERFUL!! The staff were very good, attentive without being overbearing and the food came fairly quickly. All the items on our trays were a delight to eat, we were stuffed when we'd finished. We had a two for one cocktail and a pint of Cobra. At £61:16 including tip, we thought that very reasonable for the city centre. I'd definitely go again.”
  • Mark Cooper
“3 of us popped in here spontaneously on a break from the Red Dwarf con round the corner, as it smelled really nice outside and we had a really lovely meal. Great service, very friendly and welcoming. We ordered the Bottomless Thali meals, which are a bit like curry tapas where they bring you a little bit of a few different things, and you can keep re-ordering as much as you want. It was all very tasty, I had the lamb (which actually tasted like lamb unlike some places) and did order seconds, but struggled to finish them as they were quite generous portions!. Would definitely look forward to coming back in future if in the area!”
