Customer Review Summary

Steak is the clear draw at Gaucho Newcastle, with reviewers repeatedly praising cuts cooked perfectly medium rare and packed with flavour, alongside the shared platter and a tuna tartare called exceptional by more than one diner. The bottomless Yorkshire puddings and beef and red wine gravy from the Sunday lunch package draw particular enthusiasm, as does the cookie dough dessert. Several mention the Argentine Malbec and wine list pairing well with the meal, and staff are frequently described as accommodating, including toward children and birthday celebrations. The main recurring caveat is price, with diners calling it expensive or higher than expected, and one reviewer objecting to a 10% service charge automatically added for a table of two despite slow service. A more serious complaint describes a fillet steak arriving burnt and unevenly cut, with a manager initially insisting it was correct before the kitchen produced a properly cooked replacement and reduced the bill by half. Another reviewer notes the mac and cheese was slightly under-seasoned and that fries ran out during a busy Sunday service.

“All three of us loved our main steak meal, and my tuna tartar was exceptional. My son was offered a post dinner drink for his birthday! Our waiter was very pleasant and efficient but overworked. An expensive meal, but perfect for a special celebration.”
  • Dane Hamilton
“Visited Gaucho Newcastle last minute and decided to order the fillet steak, which at around £39 sets a pretty high expectation from the outset. Unfortunately, the first steak that arrived looked nothing like a proper fillet. It was heavily burnt on the outside, unevenly cut and generally poor in presentation. While the internal temperature may technically have been medium, that alone does not make it a well-executed fillet steak. The disappointing part was that the manager initially tried to argue that what I had been served was correct and exactly what I ordered. Anyone familiar with steak cuts could see the difference immediately. A fillet should be neat, uniform and tender-looking, not ragged and over-charred. To be fair, the replacement steak that arrived afterwards was a completely different standard and was clearly what a fillet steak should actually look like. It was cooked properly, presented properly and much more in line with the quality you would expect from a premium steak restaurant. The staff did eventually handle it reasonably by replacing the meal and reducing it to half price, which I appreciated, but that was never really the point. The issue was more the attempt to defend the original dish as acceptable in the first place. For a restaurant positioned at this price point, customers should not need to argue over whether a fillet steak actually resembles a fillet steak.”

“A very brilliant restaurant with lovely atmosphere. The environment is very amazingly beautiful and staff over there were massively impressed. Really a lovely place to go on for dinner, however the prices has been a little bit higher than expected but the services that have been received, it’s brilliant.”
  • Mark Stearman
“Food was sensational..bottomless yorkies and beef&red wine gravy as part of the package and we def had a couple of extra rounds of both. We went for a late sunday lunch...and missed the whole midday rush so the restaurant was quiet. Meat was a delight as it was thick cut...and individually seared so had the great chargrill taste we all love.”
  • Carron Kennedy
“Great service, Manager super helpful & Maya was a lovely waitress who looked after us extremely well. Our steaks were gorgeous, on the higher side price wise but cooked perfectly & packed with flavour. Excellent fries too (Shame they'd run out of veg but they'd had a busy Sunday)”
