About Quayside Buffet Restaurant

Quayside Buffet Restaurant is an Indian restaurant on Forster St in Newcastle Upon Tyne, built around an all-you-can-eat buffet that mixes Indian, Chinese and Italian dishes. A live stir fry and pasta section lets guests pick from the kitchen's cooking in one visit, and pizza is part of the spread. Customer Review Summary

Reviewers return mostly for the sheer variety of the buffet, with Indian curries, chicken tikka and chicken kebabs named most often, alongside samosas, naans and rice. Close behind come the pizzas, fried chicken, a live stir fry and pasta section, and desserts such as caramel biscuits, warm cookie dough with ice cream, cheesecake and apple crumble. Several praise dishes that stay hot and are regularly refilled. Staff earn repeated mentions as friendly and attentive, with a manager who checks on tables, and a few describe birthday cakes brought out for their parties. The caveats are about authenticity. One reviewer found the spice levels mismatched and some dishes lacking soul, another objected to spaghetti bolognese served with herbs on top, and a third called the Chinese dishes more an Indian-style fusion, though some were surprisingly delicious. Mocktails are served, and one reviewer notes there is no alcohol, which they felt kept the atmosphere calmer. One group came away with a surprise cake and the whole restaurant singing.

“Had a fantastic meal at the Quayside Buffet! The spread was impressive, with a great variety of options ranging from fresh seafood to hearty roasts and a delicious range of desserts. Everything was well-presented and tasted fresh — you could tell the ingredients were high quality. The waitress Pooja kept the stations topped up throughout, so there was never a shortage of the popular dishes. Great value for the variety on offer, and a lovely spot with a nice view too. Would definitely recommend for anyone looking for a satisfying meal with plenty of choice!”

“We recently visited Quayside Buffet Restaurant as a party of 15, and it was a fantastic experience from start to finish. The food was fresh, full of flavour, and there was an incredible variety of dishes to choose from, so everyone in our group found something they enjoyed. Everything was well stocked and regularly replenished, which made the buffet even better. A special thank you to the staff, who went the extra mile by bringing out a surprise cake for my nephew, making his celebration even more memorable. The service was friendly, attentive, and accommodating despite our large group. If you're looking for a great buffet with delicious food, plenty of choice, and excellent service, I highly recommend Quayside Buffet Restaurant. We'll definitely be back!”

“We booked this restaurant because we have friends visiting from down south. They are staying in the Travelodge above the restaurant. One of the group is celebrating her 70th birthday and they helped us make it really special. We ordered mocktails and a cake which was presented with happy birthday being played in the background. After this we started on the food. It was delicious. There's something to suit most tastes and everything we we had was well cooked, full of flavour and still hot (which has been a massive problem at other buffet restaurants we've visited). From the minute we walked through the door we felt really welcome and the staff couldn't do enough to make our meal enjoyable. We'll definitely go back and can highly recommend it.”

“I cannot recommend this place enough!! There is so much options for food and drink! Everything tasted amazing! I’d recommend to come in something comfy as your stomach will be twice as large when you leave😂 it’s even good for picky eaters I remember there being around 5 different pizzas and great variety of bits like fried chicken and onion rings, fries etc. I absolutely loved their chicken tikka and chicken kebabs! They had so many curries and rice options which tasted amazing, and lots of meat, samosas kebabs, naans etc. One drink will definitely be enough and I’d recommend one of their mocktails or water so you don’t get filled up by fizzy drinks! Even their desserts were amazing there was so much options, my personal favourites were the caramel biscuits and warm cookie dough which I had with ice cream! There was also cheesecakes, jelly’s, apple crumble, sweet rice, cake etc. I’ve not had much luck in buffets as I’m a picky eater but all the food here I loved as there was so much choice! I live in Birmingham and I am already planning my trip back to Newcastle just for this restaurant! I really hope they make a chain soon haha. Service was amazing too, I’m really sorry I didn’t catch your name but I think he is the owner or manager and he was funny and helpful really made our evening just an extra bit special. 10/10.”

“It’s not exactly authentic Chinese food, but more of an Indian or Arab-style Chinese fusion. That being said, some of the dishes are surprisingly delicious! It’s a unique twist on the classics, and definitely worth a try if you're open to something different”
