About Crown Posada
Crown Posada is a Victorian real ale pub at 31 Side in the centre of Newcastle Upon Tyne, with a small, old-style, traditional interior. The pub has original stained glass windows and stained-glass ceilings, along with dark wood panelling and wall lamps. The bar pours a selection of craft beers and cask ales, with regular lagers, stouts and bitter also on offer. Tables are shared among customers when the pub is busy, so seats can be tight.

Customer Review Summary
The two critical reviews come from long-time regulars who say it changed hands after Covid and has lost its charm. They describe a flat atmosphere and a weaker beer selection. One says it no longer serves a consistently good Tyneside Blonde and instead pours a London beer at a price they question. Another reviewer also cautions that the craft beers are not cheap, though a different one calls the prices reasonable.

“Have known this place for 40+ years and with its classic interior has always been my go to in Newcastle. Since changing owners post Covid it’s not the same. Used to consistently do the best pint of Tyneside Blonde on Tyneside. Now they serve you whatever they can including a London beer at £6.80 a pint - why?!”

“Extraordinarily beautiful pub with a great range of beers.”

“Used to be a fantastic pub but what an absolute shame. Absolutely devoid of atmosphere, beer was lacking, which is a shame because it used to be a hub for beer from the north east. For a pub with such marvellous history I hope this is a brief chapter because the Crown Posada has lost all of its charm. Owners should take a long hard look at this place and realise how important its heritage is.”

“Very proper, traditional public house. Clean and well presented, chatty and friendly staff. Something to suit most tastes in terms of drinks, and a nice change/ alternarive to new, manufacured chain venues.”
