About Akenside Traders

Akenside Traders is a pub in Newcastle Upon Tyne on Dean St, where owners can bring their dogs and find drinks and treats for them, along with a "dog of the week" idea. Sport plays on the TV, including NUFC matches, so match days have a natural home here. Draught beer is on tap, and the kitchen serves a food platter, garlic bread and nachos. Bottomless brunch is offered with cocktails and premium spirits among the drinks, and large groups can book it. Otherwise the pub runs on a walk-in basis. Slot machines sit inside the pub.

Customer Review Summary

Bottomless brunch is what reviewers raise most, with two describing a large group kept in full drinks, a wide choice that includes premium spirits and cocktails, and generous, hot food that arrived together. Staff draw steady praise as friendly, and one server is credited with handling a big table without trouble. The pub's dog-friendly side also earns mentions, including drinks and treats for visiting dogs and a "dog of the week" idea. Sport on the TV, outdoor seating and a good atmosphere at night come up as well, and one reviewer liked the pub backing NUFC's Wembley trip. The complaints are specific. One diner paid for cloudy beer and was then left waiting while a bar worker served an office group. Another waited a long time for draught Pepsi Max on a quiet Sunday evening, then got a food platter with cold items, burnt garlic bread and stale nachos. One reviewer describes a hostile reaction from a bar worker after a Peroni order, and another says the slot machines detract from the look of the place.

“I visited akenside a few days ago with my partner and I was served by none other than a woman named Caroline with below subpar customer service attitude and hostile/passive aggressive attitude after my parter asked for a peroni. I also heard her gossiping and talking down on me to the other staff who were present. I felt very dismissed and unwelcome and will NOT be returning unless something is fixed in regards to her piss poor attitude. I became very emotional upon leaving the venue and it’s shaken my mental health”

“Not worth the money. Walked in at 7pm on a sunday the place had some people but not busy at all, the bar was also mostly empty too but we somehow waited 25 mins for our drinks, draught pepsi maxs!! This was a sign of things to come as when the food platter (21£) came and everything was cold, garlic bread burnt and nachos stale.”

“I booked a bottomless brunch for 13 of us and I must say it’s been one of the best ones we’ve done for a while. We had the most efficient server, she was brilliant her name was Acacia. For being such a big group nothing was a bother, There wasn’t a time we didn’t have at least one full drink in front of us. She was brilliant. She really made the experience 10 Times better. The food was really lovely too all came out together and was very tasty and hot too. I would definitely recommend here especially for bottomless brunch.”

“Stopped in for a lime and lemonade whilst my daughter took her theory test. Friendly staff. Lovely outdoor seating area (it helped that it was a warm sunny day). Very nice place.”

“£5.75 for cloudy beer? Errr… no and then the barmaid didn’t have a clue that if you can’t see your fingers at the other side of the glass as you hold it, then it’s not worth drinking, After a painful wait whilst she decided ti serve an office crew I eventually got something else. I wouldn’t put it on my fish and chips so Sarsons vinegar have nothing to worry about.”
