About Station East
Station East is a pub on Hills St in Gateshead, built underneath an active railway arch in an old building with a resident ghost. The bar staff tell visitors about the building and its ghost. Real ales share the bar with a large selection of ciders, including several flat ciders, with Thistly Cross Trad and Duddas Tun Elderflower among them. Budvar Lager is on the list for lager drinkers. Food is simple, with pies, including pitman pies, and sausage rolls kept in a fridge. The pub holds live music and gigs, and quizzes and other events run regularly. Dogs are welcome.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the beer and cider range, with real ales and a ridiculous number of ciders, including five flat ciders on one visit, drawing the strongest praise. Close behind is the building itself, an old pub under a railway arch that diners call full of character, and one bartender even told a table about its ghost. Friendly, helpful staff come up repeatedly, with one reviewer noting they stayed for hours and the team never showed any sign of being tired of them. Live music and sing-alongs add to the atmosphere, and reviewers also mention quizzes and other events. The pies and sausage rolls get a good word too, including pitman pies described as really tasty. No complaints appear in the reviews. One reviewer who doesn't drink still keeps coming back just to see the inside, and a fridge full of pies and sausage rolls is what another remembers behind the bar.

“What a fantastic night! We loved the live music, even though we arrived a bit late and only caught the end of Bob Bates' set. 🎶 the atmosphere was vibrant as other people sang along with Bob. The service was great, with a fab selection of real ale beers, Fiona was helpful and filled us in with details of the place. 🌟 Can't wait to return! 😊”

“Despite the fact I don't drink; I've been absolutely fascinated with this beautiful pub built underneath an active railway arch. Wonderful atmosphere inside and amazing staff. The place does events and gigs also however I've not attended any. Tbh I hardly go in (what with not drinking) but when I do I just wanna see everywhere inside.”
