About Alvinos Bar

Alvinos Bar is a cocktail bar at 88 Pilgrim St in Newcastle Upon Tyne, built around a retro 90s pop-culture theme. The cocktail menus are VHS-style, and graphic posters carry the theme through the venue. The bar spreads over three floors, and the top floor is a part-open roof terrace. The cocktail list changes regularly, and the bar staff will make classics on request even when they are not on the menu. Non-alcoholic cocktails are available, and beers and draughts sit alongside the cocktails. Stairs connect the levels, including down to the toilets on the bottom floor.

Customer Review Summary

Reviewers most often praise the cocktails, describing a constantly changing menu of original, unique drinks, with the classics made on request. Several say the bartenders will recreate favourites even after they have left the menu. Close behind are the beer and draught selection, called good and not excessively priced by one reviewer, and a few mention non-alcoholic cocktails. Staff are described as friendly, welcoming and accommodating. The venue spans three floors, including a part open rooftop terrace, and one reviewer describes a retro 90's pop culture look with VHS cocktail menus and graphic posters. The complaints are modest but specific. One reviewer misses any snacks, such as crisps, another calls it a little pricey, and one weekday evening visit found it quiet with not a lot of atmosphere, though two reviewers expect weekends to be busier. One adds that it always looks closed from the outside. A group of five recalls the bartender remaking all their old favourite drinks, some gone from the menu for years.

“Always a lovely time at alvinos. As far as I'm aware it's not wheelchair friendly. There's stairs to alternative floors and stairs to the toilets on the bottom floor. Booth available for private function. Good selection of drinks and decent music.”

“Quick services, mind the bar had not long opened.there are 3 floors top one is a part open terrace, I would say it is more for the younger generation but not bad”

“We popped into Alvinos for a cocktail after seeing it online. It's a kind of old school 90's retro pop culture bar which vhs for cocktails menus and graphic posters all over. There is a f Roof terrace and plenty space on each floor. It was quiet when we went(Tuesday 7pm) but apparently gets busy on weekends etc...”

“Me and my friend are from London and we stumbled across Alvinos as we were looking for a nice cocktail bar. The cocktails they offered were unique and delicious and additionally they also did the classics upon request. The staff were friendly and smiled throughout, it was a nice night out in Newcastle, we will definitely be back when we’re next in town.”

“One of my favorite bars. Bartenders are always nice and polite, there is a friendly atmosphere. The only minus is the lack of any snacks, for example crisps.”
