Customer Review Summary
Most diners praise the food, led by a large meat mezze board of steak, pork and lamb. A homemade shortcrust pie, a curry and a Sunday beef roast with big roast potatoes and extra gravy come close behind. Others name lasagne, lamb burger, hot honey chicken skewers and pasta carbonara. Staff are described as friendly and attentive, prices as reasonable, and one visitor enjoyed the outdoor seating over a couple of pints. The recurring complaint comes from one festive-menu visit that went badly. The wrong dish arrived first, the "prawn and crayfish" cocktail held only prawns, the sprouts were overcooked, and a salmon main came in a starter-sized bowl. That reviewer also saw staff chatting rather than watching tables, and a dessert menu only arrived after a table called out for it. The room felt cold and not festive. A separate visitor met no greeting at the bar and called the pub dreary. Several others mention the chef coming out to check that everything was okay.

“We walked in and it was a very dreary pub, with no greeting from the woman behind the bar. Then we realised the hygiene rating was a 3 - and based on the general vibe and overall feel we didn’t stay and headed somewhere else which was a shame as it’s in a good location and looks nice on the outside”

“First visit to this pub found it on journey home from Monmouthshire. Staff so friendly food was excellent properly cooked by the chef who I had the pleasure to meet. All the food cooked in the kitchen correctly a joy to eat. Thank you”

“Went on Wednesday so fairly quiet. Had the curry which was great. The other food looked great. I liked that you could see into the kitchen. I was a little surprised to see on leaving a food hygiene rating of 1 on the window. Everything looked spotless to me and will definitely go again.”

“Best Sunday lunch I have had in a long time. Loads of beef, 3 large roast potatoes and extra gravy. Definitely come here again. Highly recommend here.”

“Never visited this establishment before, but what an outstanding place. The service was impeccable, the food was absolutely delicious, and there was plenty of it too. The chef even came out before serving to check everything was okay — nothing was too much trouble. Between our group we had the warm bread with olives, sun-dried tomatoes, balsamic and olive oil, garlic chicken, lasagne, lamb burger, chicken tikka, hot honey chicken skewers, and homemade chips. Every dish was fantastic. We will definitely be back!”
