About The Birch
The Birch is a family-run restaurant in Milton Keynes at 20 Newport Rd, with a conservatory and leather sofas among its seating. Dessert plates can be personalised with a message on request, so a dish can carry a note to the table. The menu includes Beef Wellington served with dauphinoise potatoes and a Sunday roast with gravy, and a three-course menu comes with coffee. Guests can preorder food before they reach their table. A bar area at the front sits separate from the dining area. Reservations are required, and the team takes table bookings for groups. Dogs are welcome.

Customer Review Summary
Beef Wellington is the dish diners name most, served with dauphinoise potatoes in one visit and alongside seafood risotto in another. Close behind are the scallops, a whole sea bream, a ribeye with red wine, a Sunday roast with gravy one reviewer could have drunk by the pint, and a pie of the day with red wine gravy. The Raspberry Soufflé and Mille Feuille also get praise for dessert. Reviewers describe warm, friendly, polite service, generous portions and a nicely decorated dining area, and several come for family lunches and birthdays. One reviewer marking a family anniversary had a very different visit. All four meals arrived cold, service was slow, and the table was told it had ten minutes left because a larger group was due. A service charge then appeared on the bill, and the reviewer felt the pub had declined from earlier years. Another diner asked for a dessert plate lettered with a monthsary message, and it arrived just as requested.

“We booked a table for four to mark the first anniversary of my grandad’s passing. We specifically chose this pub because it was somewhere we had visited together many times over the years, and it holds a great deal of sentimental value to our family. Unfortunately, what should have been a special occasion turned into an incredibly disappointing experience. All four meals arrived cold, the service was painfully slow, and yet somehow we were still made to feel rushed throughout our visit. What made the experience even worse was the complete lack of care from management. Not once did a manager come over to check whether we were enjoying our meal or if everything was satisfactory. In fact, the only time management spoke to us was when our desserts were brought out, at which point we were bluntly informed that we had just 10 minutes left because a larger table was coming in. We had only been there for an hour and a half, which is hardly an unreasonable amount of time for a family meal, especially considering how slow the service had been. To then receive the bill and discover that we had been charged an astonishing £19 service charge was quite frankly insulting. I genuinely struggle to understand how anyone could justify charging for service of such a poor standard. It is incredibly sad to see just how far such a lovely establishment has declined. We have so many fond memories of this pub, and I know the previous management would have been absolutely mortified by the way we were treated. What should have been a meaningful occasion to remember my grandad was instead overshadowed by cold food, poor service, and management who seemed far more concerned about getting the next table seated than looking after the customers already there. A truly disappointing experience. This pub used to be somewhere we loved visiting, but sadly, it is a shadow of what it once was.”

“What a wonderful surprise this pub is! We were visiting the area and popped in off the cuff feeling hungry. The dining area is beautiful and the service is exceptionally warm and friendly. We were delighted with our meals especially my whole sea bream which was huge. My partner absolutely loved his ribeye steak and red wine. Both meals were perfectly cooked and absolutely delicious. Highly recommended!!”

“An absolutely fantastic family lunch. Service was excellent. Food was beautiful. Everyone had a wonderful time and my niece & nephew are apparently already asking when we can go back. Thank you to everyone for making my Mother's 80th so memorable.”

“Absolutely loved our lunch here, the fish in white wine lemon sauce was delicious, and so was the pie of the day with red wine gravy. Can’t wait to come back!”

“My partner surprised me with a birthday lunch at The Birch, and it couldn't have been a better choice. I started with the Blue Cheese Steak Salad, which was fresh, generous, and packed with flavour. For dessert, I chose the Raspberry Soufflé, which was beautifully light and a perfect finish to the meal. My partner went for the Beef Wellington served with dauphinoise potatoes, followed by the Mille Feuille. Everything arriving at the table looked superb, and every course was delicious. A special thank you to Carlos, whose friendly and attentive service really stood out. He made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived and helped make the whole experience even more enjoyable. The restaurant has a relaxed atmosphere, and the quality of both the food and service was excellent. We left already talking about coming back, which says it all. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a memorable lunch.”
