About The Miners Standard
On Bank Top in Matlock, The Miners Standard is a free house pub with a field behind it where motorhomes, vans and tents can pitch, and coin-operated showers serve campers staying overnight. The kitchen cooks home-made food and caters for dietary needs. A steak pie comes with home-made chips and mushy peas, and the pies are locally produced. Fish and chips is also on the menu, along with specials. At the bar, real ales, ciders and locally brewed beer are on tap, with lagers, spirits, gins and whiskeys alongside. A fire burns inside the pub, and dogs are welcome.

Customer Review Summary
The steak pie draws the most mentions, described as generous and packed full of meat, served with home made chips and mushy peas. Close behind are the fish and chips, a vegetable curry, and a Sunday menu where nearly everything was home made, with good puddings. Portions are repeatedly called massive or humongous, and one diner suggests skipping lunch before coming for dinner. Reviewers also praise the beer, including a pint of Bass in tiptop condition, locally brewed ale, and ciders on tap. Staff and locals come across as friendly and welcoming, and a roaring fire and a beer garden in the sunshine both get mentions. Campers and motorhome visitors describe pretty views over the field, a nice gap between vans, and a stay extended by a second night, while a couple of reviewers add that the pub is dog friendly. One visiting couple recalls staff coming straight out to jump-start their dead car battery in the car park.

“Continuing our quest to find the best lunchtime steak pie and pint in Derbyshire we were drawn to the Miners Standard from the most recent reviews and are pleased we did. This lovely old building is steeped in mining history. The pies, locally produced, were both of a generous size and packed full of tasty steak and accompanied by home made chips and mushy peas.. The choice of beers was good and in tiptop condition, particularly my pint of Bass. Service was prompt given the pub bar was getting quite busy. All in all a 5* experience and will certainly return in the future.”

“Such a brilliant pub! The staff and locals were so friendly and welcoming from the moment we arrived. The food was fantastic—you’ve got to try the fish and chips, proper pub food at its best! What really made our visit special, though, was when our car battery died in the car park. Without a second thought, they immediately came out to help jump-start us. You just don't get kindness and hospitality like that everywhere. Thank you so much—we’ll definitely be back!”
