Customer Review Summary
Reviewers return most for the hearty, oversized portions, with the Sunday roast the standout: one calls the beef melt-in-the-mouth, praising the mash and cauliflower cheese, and another says the roast is the best around. Close behind are the pies, including a tender beef pie of the day served with sausage, pork belly, red cabbage and dark gravy, and a cheese pie described as a generous portion. Others mention lamb and chicken gyros, steak, pizza, fish and chips, and a shared crème brulee. Six real ales please one beer drinker, and diners describe friendly service, with dog bowls, treats and blankets, and a spare box for leftover pizza. The main complaint comes from one party who waited around an hour for meals and found the gravy on a lamb shank pie too salty, with everyone at the table noting it. The same reviewer found the entrance steps and a small step down a barrier for wheelchair users, with ramps propping doors open, and said the singer sounded like karaoke. Another diner took half a pizza home in a box.

“Had a really lovely evening meal. Best steak my daughter has had for a while. The cheese pie was delicious and a very generous portion. We shared the crème brulee as we were actually too full from the main course but it sounds good. It was divine. Staff were really lovely too. Would highly recommend the Remarkable Hare”

“Visited the Remarkable Hare as part of a hen do weekend. It was really easy to book in and the team were helpful before we’d even arrived. Being a large party we had to pre order but they kindly allowed the bride to order on the night so we didn’t spoil the surprise. The food came out quickly and was lovely- the portion sizes are huge however! The service was quick and we never had a dry glass. Thanks so much for a fantastic time we would defiantly be back if we ever come to Matlock again.”

“We came upon this little gem of a pub during a stay in Matlock and boy were we pleased we did. A very warm welcome awaits you and the team there are lovely. I ordered pie of the day which was beef and oh my it was beautifully tender and a rather large pie at that served with a large sausage, a piece of pork belly, chips, red cabbage and the darkest most beautiful gravy I have ever had! Large portions seem to be the norm here and judging by the faces of other customers they too seemed to agree with me about the food. Beautiful friendly pub its just a pity I could not make this my local! Congratulations to the whole team on a fabulous place serving fabulous good value for money hearty food. Just as it should be!”
