About The Castle
The Castle is a bar and brewpub at 16 Dale Rd in Matlock, with craft beer cans displayed in the front window. The cans sit at room temperature in the display, and the team will chill one on request. On the keg lines, two craft beers run alongside standard taps such as Guinness and lagers, and two real ales are on offer as well. The venue also operates as a cafe, coffee shop and wine bar. Live bands play on site, and sport is shown on big screens. A happy hour is part of the offer. Dogs are welcome.

Customer Review Summary
Beer selection is the main complaint: reviewers find only two craft or real ales on tap and say it has declined. One notes craft cans sit at room temperature in a window display and came barely cold after a short stint in the chiller. Praise goes to live bands, a mix of ages, and friendly service over a happy hour San Miguel and cider.

“On a hot Monday afternoon after a day exploring Matlock and the surrounding area we were feeling a little thirsty so we popped in for a swift drink. 3 minutes into happy hour was a bonus. A pint of San Miguel and a pint of Cider came to £8.00. Both were good and with friendly service and music that wasn't to loud it was a nice way to chill before heading back to our accommodation.”

“Pleasant micropub. Only two real ales on offer. Very quiet on a Saturday lunchtime. Nice comfortable seating. Nice interior. Sport on big screens. I didn't notice the food menu”

“Love this place mix of age gtoup have good bands on, never eaten here so can't comment on that”

“Didn't order food so can't comment. Usual standard range of beers on tap (Guinness, lagers etc) plus 2 craft brews on tap. Ordered a craft can expecting it to be cold but it turns out that the cans are kept in a locked display in the front window at room temperature. I was asked if I'd like it chilled (which of course I did as it was 26° outside). Received it after being in the beer 'chiller' for a minute. It was barely cold, very disappointed and won't be going again. Why don't they keep their cans in a fridge like every other bar/pub??”

“Used to have such a good beer selection, not sure what happened but it's really lacking in beer and atmosphere now. shame :/”
