About Greek Gyros

Greek Gyros is a Greek restaurant in Manchester, at 2 Peter St, built around gyros served as wraps. The menu includes the chicken gyros, the halloumi wrap and a mixed chicken and pork wrap. Chicken and pork are cooked on a grill and served from a skewer, and the halloumi goes on the same grill as the chicken. Boxes are available in place of wraps, with chips included, and tzatziki and a spicy sauce come as options for the meat. The kitchen stays open late into the night for late-night diners, and the night-time price differs from the daytime one. A queue is often present at the counter.

Customer Review Summary

Chicken is what reviewers mention most, in gyros wraps and boxes, and opinions split sharply. Positive reviewers describe delicious, massive portions, a mixed two box and a mixed two wrap that a couple finished, and warm meats whose smell drew them in from the street. Others found the chicken dry, chewy and flavourless, the pork dry and the bread hard on the outside. Portion balance is the second complaint. A chicken and halloumi box was mostly cold chips with two thin slices of halloumi, a wrap was barely half filled with no salad and only a few fries, and the chips were called too salty. One reviewer said the tzatziki tasted like plain yogurt, and several call it overpriced for what arrived. Service divides too. Some praise lovely young men at the counter, while others describe a dismissive attitude after asking for halloumi not to be burnt, and a counter worker who kept earphones in. One reviewer who asked for a refund on a halloumi wrap that arrived with chicken was charged a second time and had not been repaid after two weeks.

“Called in for gyros last night (3rd October) around 11:30 PM and the customer service was shocking. The older Black man working had a disgusting attitude, all because I politely asked for my halloumi not to be burnt (after watching him serve burnt food to a customer right before me). When I got my food, the wrap was barely half-filled, had no salad, and literally contained about 3 or 4 fries. My friend took it back to ask for it to be filled correctly , and he gave him the exact same awful attitude. I get that staff have to deal with a lot of drunk people late at night, but not everyone coming in is inebriated, and no one deserves to be spoken to like something on the bottom of his shoe. You already pay a £3 nighttime premium for food here compared to daytime prices—you definitely shouldn't have to pay extra to be treated with total disrespect.”

“I’ve eaten at this place multiple times before and have always had a great experience. The food was consistently amazing and the service was good, so I had no complaints. Unfortunately, my experience last night was completely different. I ordered the chicken and halloumi box for £15.50, but what I received was mostly a box full of chips, many of which were cold. The chicken was unusually chewy and poor in quality, and there were only two very thin slices of halloumi. The service by two female staff was also disappointing compared with my previous visits. For the price, I expected much better quality and portion balance.”

“Service was good but food wasn’t great. I ordered a mixed chicken and pork wrap and the chicken had no flavour and was very chewy. Chips were too salty and the tzatziki sauce just tasted like unflavoured greek yogurt. Would not recommend”

“I have been dying to try this place for ages as the food always looks good and there is always a queue. Last night I finally decided to give it a try. We had 2 chicken gyros and specially asked for the chicken to be cooked more as it looked a little too fresh on the grill. Unfortunately our request was ignored and we were served UNCOOKED chicken which we obviously then threw away as this is a serious health hazard. £12.50 for uncooked food - there was also no spicy sauce left. The food was well presented as you can see from the pic but that's as good as it gets.”
