About Fuel Cafe Bar
Fuel Cafe Bar is a vegetarian restaurant and bar at 448 Wilmslow Rd in Manchester, serving a vegan and vegetarian menu alongside a bar. Breakfast includes avocado toast and a full English veggie breakfast. The rest of the menu covers a burger in soya or spicy jerk versions, a quesadilla and a mini mezze with hummus and falafel. Chips and sweet potato wedges come as sides. Orders go through the counter, and art and pre-loved furniture fill the space. The venue puts on live music, comedy, poetry and quiz nights, with local bands playing on the second floor. That upstairs multi-function room can also be hired for events and private hire. Customer Review Summary
The chilli burrito is the dish diners mention most, described as full of flavour and so big it left one reviewer's husband completely full. Close behind are the soya Fuel burger, the spicy jerk burger and the palak paneer with chickpea rice and flatbread. Others name a quesadilla with home made chips, a mushroom and goats cheese focaccia with sweet potato wedges, and a full English veggie breakfast served until 4pm. Reviewers repeatedly praise friendly staff, good portions, affordable food and a laid back atmosphere, along with live music upstairs, though one notes it is sometimes heavy metal and another finds the upstairs room less welcoming than downstairs. The complaints concern the kitchen. One reviewer found the avocado and egg on toast watery with soggy bread, while another waited over an hour for an order that included avocado toast, then received a bean burrito with no beans and a side of chips that amounted to five wedges.

“I love this place, but I am really sorry - today I had an avocado and egg on toast and it wasn’t great. It was quite watery, and even though the bread had been toasted it was soggy. Maybe the poached eggs hadn’t been dried enough after coming out the pot? Other than that, this place is amazing but I just wanted the chef to know 😔”

“This place has happy and calm vibes. Staff were lovely, the food was full of flavour and big portion. I had the chilli burrito 😋 I forgot to take photos because it looked so good!!”

“I have only been to Fuel Cafe twice so far and only during the day but I feel comfortable leaving a 5 star review because I believe this place fulfils the goals of what it is trying to be. Fuel is busy, but it is comfortable. It achieves comfort through its cleanliness, pre-loved furniture, charming knick-knacks, warm or natural light, and lovely service. The food and drinks are a good portion to satisfy, and the menu is simple and tasty. You won’t be waiting long or be disappointed on spending your money there, you’ll be happy. I was asked to leave a review on the Palak Paneer. It came with a portion of chickpea rice, some pitta/flatbread, and standard shredded lettuce. The paneer is cut and fried into a good size so that you are able to grab it easily with the flat bread and put it in your mouth without having to think about it falling apart or out of anything, which is good when space can be limited and you could be eating one handed with the plate on your lap or next to your laptop. The palak is smooth, mixes well with rice, and its flavour is fragrant-forward with its tempered spices as opposed to heat-forward, which is good for staying focussed on your conversation or work. Keep the red onions, but the lettuce can be improved by replacing with something like cucumber/kachumber/rocket or raita and maybe offering the customer if they want it with just rice and spoon, just bread, or with a bit of both, the way it was served to me. During the day Fuel Cafe provides a space for you to be at ease whether you’re there to enjoy lunch, order half the menu and catch up with a friend or if you’re alone and studying in your own world for hours ordering a few coffees and maybe a sweet treat. I’m interested to see how the place transforms at Breakfast rush, and at night as a bar.”

“Great cafe, good food, upstairs is a multi function room and it feels less welcoming than down stairs.”

“The food took over hour to come, when one of the orders was just avocado toast. One of the bean burritos didn’t have any beans it. The loaded fries weren’t presented very nicely (see picture for reference). They don’t have a customer first attitude and had bad service. Very unhygienic, they left food out on the side. When they gave us a knife and fork they were wet. The food wasn’t nice and the portion of chips on the side was 5 wedges. Wouldn’t even fill a baby up.”

“A friendly little cafe/ bar venue serving fresh, hearty vegan and vegetarian food, a HUGE selection of carefully chosen booze, coffees, milkshakes/ smoothies and a wide menu for all needs! We have board games, free Wi-Fi and comfy sofas as well as a plethora of music, comedy, poetry and quiz night. A well loved, slightly odd little place in the heart of the weird and wonderful Winthington. Pay us a vista if you can. We’d like that. If you have any questions about hiring the upstairs please email fuelupstairs@gmail.com We welcome any and all events, even private hire :)”
