Customer Review Summary
Diners most often single out the grilled meats, from the mixed grill platter with lamb chops and seekh kebabs to chicken tikka, with tawa chicken and prawn tikka praised as tender and well marinated close behind. Nihari with its garnishes on a separate plate, chicken biryani, samosa chaat and the Oreo milkshake also earn mentions. Reviewers split sharply on the rest. Two call the pasta bland, one saying it needed added salt, and a karahi is described as more like salan. Desserts draw complaints too, with melted chocolate that hardened within minutes and a warm San Sebastian cheesecake with an egg smell. Service divides. Some praise friendly staff during a birthday dinner, while others report an abrupt greeting and rude staff. One reviewer reports finding a mouldy tomato in the salad and says staff seemed indifferent when told. Several praise the decor and atmosphere, and one describes hot towels brought at the end of the meal.

“Came here for a late night meal. Atmosphere was great, staff were very pleasant but sadly the food didn't live upto expectations. The mango salad was delicious, however the pasta was very bland. There was no taste, one was too spicy which they said was medium spice and both were just bland. I had to add salt to give it a bit of taste. Disappointed”

“I’d wanted to visit this place for a long time, and I finally went with a group of friends on a Thursday evening. When we arrived, we were told that if we didn’t order a meal, our table would be limited to one and a half hours. There weren’t many customers at the time, but that was still the policy. We ordered a variety of desserts, most of which came with melted chocolate. Unfortunately, the chocolate hardened within a couple of minutes and became difficult to eat. It would have been much better if they had used chocolate ganache instead. We couldn’t really enjoy most of the chocolate because it became hard as a rock. I personally ordered the San Sebastian cheesecake. I was expecting a cool, creamy, milky dessert, but it was served warm and had a noticeable egg smell, which I didn’t enjoy. Overall, I was disappointed with the experience. I don’t think I’ll be coming back anytime soon, although I might give it another chance in the future. We’ll see.”

“Visited Cafe Begum for the first time. I expected it to ge one of those overhyped places, but I was very wrong. The tawa chicken was absolutely delicious, never tasted something so good. Marinated and cooked to perfection. A very relaxing atmosphere and very clean. I will definitely be visiting again.”

“We recently dined here to celebrate my mum’s birthday, and I can honestly say it was a wonderful experience from start to finish. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, making it the perfect place for such a special occasion. The staff were incredibly polite, friendly, and attentive throughout the entire evening. They made us feel comfortable and well looked after, which really added to the overall experience. A very special and heartfelt thank you goes to Momna, who went above and beyond to take care of us. Her kindness, professionalism, and attention to detail truly made our visit memorable. The service, combined with the lovely environment, made it a celebration we will always remember. It’s clear that a lot of care and effort goes into running this place, and it really shows. We will definitely be coming back again and would highly recommend this place to all our family and friends. Keep up the amazing work and continue striving for excellence. May Allah bless you all — you truly deserve it!”

“Went here today with my family and honestly so disappointed, disappointed isn’t even the right word because the experience was awful. The shop itself is beautiful and it’s a very nice area. Can’t fault that but this is where the good stops. Seating: Was sat in front of the window and was one of the worst seating experiences ever, my chair was touching the chair of the other family next to us, we were so close to them that we could here their conversation. It was a very uncomfortable and unpleasant experience. Every-time I moved my chair, I’d hit their chair, how can you have a beautiful shop like this but such an awful and uncomfortable seating experience? However, this could be just the area we were sat at so I don’t pay too much heed to this. Yet, the next part is inexcusable for such a perceived “high class environment”. MOULDY TOMATO: See attached picture for what I’m talking about. I’ve ate at countless places where they offer a fresh salad and have never had this issue, even on this road. Places like Al Jazeera or Jaffas offer so much salad and i have never had mouldy food there. How can you serve a mouldy tomato? Mistakes happen but this kind of mistake is honestly inexcusable for a place like this. The way they deal with it is awful too. SERVICE: When we were finished, we showed the server the mouldy tomato and asked them to talk to us about it. Completely ignored. When we left, we told the woman at the front too and she was so indifferent with no sympathy or apologies for serving that. No server came up to us to ask if we needed anything or how the food was. It’s literally basic service 101 and it wasn’t even busy at this moment at time so this was very disappointing and there’s no excuse for having such poor service. There’s no excuse for this kind of service especially when the experience you’re trying to give is a high class experience. Food: Chops were good, tikka was good, fish was good. Karahi was more like salan. Wasn’t a big fan of the naan. However, food is subjective, I may have not enjoyed it but someone else may enjoy it so try at your own discretion. However, I do have to ask how quality is assessed and kept in this establishment. If they just served us mouldy tomato, what if the meat isn’t being properly stored? I’m sorry but I just can’t trust this place after this experience. Also just checked but their fsa rating is 3 so that may explain things. OVERALL: For the price, I don’t recommend this place at all, it’s just disappointing and awful. If you want good curry, go Lahori Badshaor literally anywhere else. These guys also are so cheap when it comes to their branding it’s a joke. When asked to pack up our food, they gave us grab bags with lid handles which are so impractical to carry around, like come on, just do the bare minimum and get bags with handles. All in all, in good faith I can’t recommend this place and think twice before you eat here. I hope the management take this on board but with how indifferent their staff were to our suggestions, I doubt it. When eating here, just check your food.”
