Quick info
About Black Milk
Black Milk is a dessert restaurant at 88 Oldham St in Manchester's Northern Quarter, built around freakshakes, vegan milkshakes and a wide dessert menu. The milkshake list includes a salted caramel and Biscoff version, and the pancakes include a Kinder option. Cakes and cookies are baked fresh, with carrot cake among them. Hot chocolate, tea, coffee and iced drinks sit alongside the sweets, so the menu works as an all-day dessert stop. Because it keeps going into the late evening, it also suits a late-night sweet fix. The shop sells its own branded products too.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the friendly, welcoming staff, who walk diners through the specials and suggest dishes. Pancakes lead the food praise, with fluffy, warm kinder pancakes and a pancake day visit described as indulgent. Close behind are the tiramisu, carrot cake, cornflake cake with custard, and a Salted Caramel and Biscoff milkshake. Others mention Lotus Biscoff gelato. The criticism is detailed. Two reviewers found the milkshakes tasteless or like soggy cookies, and one received a plastic cup instead of the glass shown on socials, with no sauce on the rim. Others describe pistachio crème tasting of sunflower oil, brownies like dirt, a tangy espresso, and a chocolate cheesecake bowl made of cheap chocolate with flavourless cream. One notes lots of items out of stock, and a fan of the place warns that the matcha, ube and blueberry drinks contain jammy bits that are hard to mix. Still, one late visit ended with staff handing over freebies alongside the tiramisu and carrot cake.

“I love coming to black milk, it’s the perfect stop off for a sweet treat or nice coffee. The atmosphere is vibrant yet relaxed and the staff are always so helpful and friendly! I’ve had an array of treats from here and they’ve all been delicious. The only thing I will say to watch out for is the matcha, the Ube one and the blueberry one are made with literaly jam or something etc so they’re VERY bitty and hard to mix up so you end up getting mouth fulls of pure matcha so just be aware of that, it’s not a markdown, just not for me personally. Everything else though is an absolute winner in my book. Definitely a great place to treat yourself!”

“Came here spontaneously to hide from the rain and had the most beautiful fresh, fluffy warm kinder pancakes. The service was the cherry on top, as Kirsty on the till was so welcoming and Erin was so lovely and funny. Would highly recommend!”

“Been looking forward to come here for such a long time. Pros: - Staff are wonderful and pleasant - Hot Chocolates looked delicious (didn’t have that but others coming out looked nice) - Plenty of seats - They sell their own brands Cons - Lots of items out of stock - Ordered a milkshake and it came in a plastic cup rather than a glass cup that they show over all their socials (and no sauce around the rim), it was tasteless and lacked any kind of kinder or salted carmel it suggested whilst ordering - I had expresso, worst shot I’ve ever had, it was tangy and un enjoyable :( - Ordered chocolate cheesecake bowl, the bowl it comes in is chocolate but cheap chocolate and not tasty, the cream lacked any kind of flavour. I honestly could have made better myself I’m sad that I wasted £30 and the nicest thing I tried was their bottled water.”
