About Village Cafe

Village Cafe is a coffee shop and breakfast restaurant on Moston Lane in Manchester, serving a small room that takes both eat-in and takeaway custom. The kitchen's Maxi breakfast anchors the menu, a full English served with slabs of toast, alongside breakfast barms and baps filled with sausage, egg, bacon or mushroom, and hash browns as a side. Americano coffee rounds out the usual order alongside the cooked food. High chairs at the tables make the space workable for families with young children. There's no booking system here, it runs on a walk-in basis, and the shop is small enough that it can fill up during busy periods. It opens daily for daytime hours only, with no evening service. The setup keeps things straightforward: order, sit or take away, and expect the room to be compact rather than spacious.

Customer Review Summary

Reviewers mostly come for the full English breakfast, with one regular describing the "Maxi" version as a full English with a couple of slabs of toast, and others praising the breakfast barms and a sausage and egg bap. The coffee is called good and strong, and the staff and owner draw repeated warmth, including one parent who says the owner stops to say hello to her little girl and hands her a biscuit. Orders are described as quick, with one pickup ready in five minutes. The caveats are specific and recurring. Several note eggs that were not runny or dippy, one says the poached eggs could be cooked less, and another waited half an hour for a sausage, egg and black pudding barm that arrived with no egg. A longtime regular says the food has declined, citing greasy sausages, thin black pudding and a few tiny mushroom halves, and reports sending back filthy crockery. One reviewer found a plate of one hash brown, three sausages and beans poor value, and another found the shop small and crowded. One reviewer asked for more butter with the bread and found the herbal teas weak.

“Really lovely place to eat! Food was decent! Small improvements could be made. - additional butter servings for bread, poached eggs cooked a little less. but overall was nice! Staff are super lovely! So I guarantee they would help with these issues if requested, without hesitation! Cannot fault the customer service! Coffee is lovely, herbal teas are a little on the weaker side, would be better with 2 teabags (but down to personal preference) Overall, would recommend!”

“I go here regularly for a "Maxi" breakfast. It's a full English essentially with a couple of slabs of toasts. It's very nice and hits the spot. I don't have any pictures because sometimes it's just not necessary, go along and find out for yourself! Service is fast and attentive without being intrusive.”
