Customer Review Summary

Reviewers most often single out the coffee, describing it as well made, consistent and "so good," and often pair it with friendly service from the person behind the counter or the owner, who one reviewer says worked a shift solo in bad weather and still chatted with their son. Beyond coffee, diners name a cake, and one recommends the hot honey chicken. A few call it a small spot that suits a quick coffee and bite. The criticism is sharper but less frequent. One reviewer says staff snapped that the shop does not take Amex, even on a UK issued card, and would not let them try a PIN when contactless failed. Another found the worker rude and the coffee like cheap instant powder, with cheap bread and an unpleasant smell of dried fish. A third was confused that "French toast of the day" arrived as two plain slices. Even so, several praise the service as smiling and kind, and one returning regular says the quality is as fantastic as ever after the reopening.

“I had such a fantastic experience at Rise & Roast! The owner was working the shift solo and still managed to go above and beyond for every customer even im the extreme weather we've had today. He was incredibly friendly and polite, taking the time to ask about my day and showing a genuine interest in my son, even engaging with him while he worked. It’s rare to find such high-level service, especially when it’s busy. We will definitely be back!”

“What can I say, everything was superb. From the customer service to the food. They WILL be seeing me again. Try the hot honey chicken, you won’t be disappointed”
  • Erika Wong
“They don't take Amex, which is fine, but the staff were incredibly rude about it, snapping that "We are in England and we don't accept American banks" (even though it's an UK issued card). When my next card had a contactless limit issue, they wouldn't even let me try using my PIN and just shook their heads. It was a clear machine issue on their end, but they treated me like the problem. Eventually got a different card to work, but I won't be back to a place that treats customers this poorly.”

“As always, a perfect coffee served with a smile, very glad to see you back open, and the quality and service is still as fantastic as ever 😁”
  • Sophie Harper-Liversidge
“My Husband and I visited. I didn't order anything due to my allergies. My Husband asked what the 'French toast of the day' is. The answer was "I'll do that for you". We sat there wondering what was going to make this this dish so special as it's not just 'French toast' but 'French toast OF THE DAY'. A plate with 2 pieces of French toast turned up. We were a bit confused as to why 'of the day' is added onto 'French toast' as it is just plain French toast at the end of the day. The wording caused confusion as you expect something to accompany the french toast.”
