About Nomad Coffee

A narrow frontage on Lever St opens into one large room, which is where Nomad Coffee runs its coffee shop in Manchester's Northern Quarter, just off Stevenson Square. Wooden school-style tables and darker chairs fill the space, and power sockets sit throughout it, so laptop working is straightforward for anyone settling in for a while. Window seats face the street. The drinks list runs from chai lattes to cortados, with oat milk available, and banana bread sits among the pastries at the counter. An indie playlist plays at a volume that still leaves room to work. Dogs are welcome alongside their owners, and the shop takes walk-ins rather than bookings. It opens daily.

Customer Review Summary

Reviewers most often come to Nomad Coffee for working on a laptop, praising the plentiful seating and sockets, the friendly staff and the indie playlist that isn't too loud. The chai latte is the standout drink, with one reviewer calling it the best of their life, while others single out the matcha, the oat milk latte and the cortado. The croissants get mixed reports, crispy and buttery for one diner but a bit soggy for another. Coffee is described as reasonably priced, though strength divides opinion: one reviewer found the decaf strong with a sour aftertaste, another said the coffee wasn't quite to their taste, and one takeaway latte was so weak it was left on the windowsill. Smaller complaints include a dry banana bread, hard seats, a power socket that worked inconsistently, a cold room and internet that struggled on video calls. One reviewer, after a chai that wouldn't all fit in the cup once filtered, lost much of the foam.

“Good service, great interior design and atmosphere. Perfect for work! Lots of space and sockets. Music really nice, indie vibes but not too loud. Update: I came back a week later for work again. Internet is not so good for the video calls but I also had the best chai latter of my life!!”

“You would not serve this to some one sitting in so please put the same effort and love into takeaway... Especially as they are the same price 8( Came back today 21/04 and was given the equivalent of a baby chino that made the last one look good when i ordered a latte, have left it on your windowledge outside as taste was that weak, really disappointed and won't be back”

“The chai was delicious in flavour but a little hard to drink as it didnt all fit in the cup after filtering so I lost a bunch of the foam :( The banana bread was also a little dry which was disappointing. The atmosphere is lovely and the staff were great.”

“Loved sitting at the window here and watching the world go by, the coffee was good and VERY reasonably priced. The staff were friendly and cheerful. Loved the atmosphere and the music playlist was a vibe, lots of bops. Only downsides were that it was freeeezing and the power socket didn't work consistently so I was playing a game of is my laptop gonna make it or not 😂 would come back again but would try sitting somewhere else for more comfort.”

“Good spot. Huge and note how you enter as no direct street access but via the building’s entrance. Open, cleared out industrial and woody school tables & chairs with some soft furnishing. Satisfied.”
