About The Art of Tea

The Art of Tea is a bohemian cafe and bar in Manchester, at 47 Barlow Moor Rd, with a second-hand bookshop at the back for browsing over a drink. The team serves a wide choice of teas, plus a coffee blend made specially for the cafe. The brunch menu includes Turkish scrambled egg, and the cake counter carries lemon drizzle cake and carrot cake. Evenings bring dinner as well as coffee and brunch. Local artists' work fills the space, and live music events add a reason to stay on after a meal. Whether you come for a pot of tea, a book or a night out, the cafe, bar and shop share one room.

Customer Review Summary

Reviewers most often single out the coffee and tea, along with the second hand bookshop at the back that gives the cafe its library-like feel. One describes a coffee blend made specially for the cafe, and another found the house tea blend a bit too floral. Close behind come the food items: the lemon drizzle cake, the carrot cake and a special Turkish scrambled egg at brunch, plus dinner that one diner stumbled on after an evening walk. Staff are repeatedly called friendly, and service is described as fast and warm. Several describe the atmosphere as cozy, especially in winter, and a few mention it is dog friendly. The main caveats are small. One reviewer finds the space snug and slightly chilly in summer, and another notes it gets really busy at weekends. One suggests reserving a table before going. A reviewer also mentions picking up reasonably priced miniature scores from the bookshop.

“Charming, cozy cafe that is also dog friendly and even has its own little library/bookshop in the back. Can get really busy during weekends, understandably. Always excellent food and service.”

“Beautiful café in Didsbury. Fresh juices and food. Efficient and warm service. Lovely bookshop inside although we were sat outside to enjoy the good weather.”

“Absolutely lovely little cafe, I have been here a lot lately and every single time I’ve been treated impeccably well by the staff, I’ve only ever gone in for drinks but they are always absolutely fantastic and amazing quality! The atmosphere is so lovely and cosy in the winter and lovely on a summers day! The cafe is so welcoming and friendly and I love the aesthetic that you struggle to find in Didsbury these days with all the damn chains. Love this little business for all kinds of occasions. The manager was so so lovely to me and my friends and super attentive and amazing customer service and talked to me like he’d known me years. It was so warm and welcoming. Perfect cafe spot, completely recommend for all ages!”
