About North Star Delicatessen

North Star Delicatessen is a cafe in Manchester at 418 Wilbraham Rd, established in 2003 and taken over by Greek owners in 2019. The menu runs British and Greek side by side, with breakfast and brunch options. The Full English comes with optional black pudding, and eggs can be poached, fried or scrambled. For lunch, gyros share the menu with chicken salads. Freshly squeezed orange juice is on offer, and the cakes and desserts give the counter a sweet side. The space also works as a Greek deli, and in the evening it plays traditional Greek music.

Customer Review Summary

Breakfast and brunch anchor the praise, with the veggie breakfast singled out twice for its homemade sausage and guacamole. Others name the Spartan Eggs, a Full English with black pudding and eggs cooked to order, and eggs Benedict. The Greek side of the menu draws mentions too, including gyros, a halloumi skewer with flatbread, and a Greek bean stew. Cakes are repeatedly called delicious, and the coffee, from an iced lotus biscoff coffee to a freddo espresso, gets good words. Reviewers describe friendly staff, an atmosphere that is buzzing with energy or chilled, and a covered outdoor area that kept diners dry in the rain. Complaints are few but specific: bacon that was undercooked with chewy fat, a latte size assumed rather than asked, and website drink prices that did not match the board in the cafe. Several praise the fresh orange juice, though one reviewer had to ask for the sourdough with an omelette to be toasted.

“Had the tuna melt and the ommelate! Was so good and staff were friendly as they can be when busy. Fresh orange juice was amazing and could tell it was actually fresh, assumed the sourdough that comes with the omelette would be toasted but wasn’t so had to ask for it to be toasted which was strange. Apart from that it was very good”

“The prices on your website are not the same as the prices on the board in the cafe when ordering coffee, ie latte they never asked what size I wanted just assumed I would be having a regular when I wanted a small, definitely overpriced decaf skinny latte for £4.15 The website is out of date with the drink/ food prices which need to be right. I noticed that they have a cat roaming free in the kitchen which is not only unhygienic but people with allergies in your cafe.”

“Love North Star! Quality coffee, great menu for lunch / early evening – different to the norm and with Greek touches. Friendly happy staff! Relaxing atmosphere. Many regulars. An authentic independent café v close to Chorton tram stop.”

“This family owned Greek deli and restaurant is a local gem. It feels like sitting in a bar in downtown Athens - cool in an understated way, yet still welcoming and authentic. The staff are very friendly. I had a delicious veggie breakfast which was cooked to perfection and extremely flavourful. The cake selection is excellent and the coffee is ace. I would heartily recommend this as your new brunch spot but they're open in the evening and put traditional Greek music on too.”

“Our favourite favourite lunch and brunch spot in all of Chortlon. We’ve been coming here consistently for three years and it absolutely never misses. The food quality, the service and atmosphere are exceptional and the pricing is super reasonable. Highly recommend the gyros, chicken salads and eggs Benedict and the cakes are always delicious too”

Good to know

“North Star Chorlton was established in 2003 and was taken over by greek owners in 2019. We are an independent cafe/bar offering hearty breakfast's and tasty lunch dishes with a greek twist. We have a large selection of freshly baked cakes and over indulgent treats to compliment the best cup of coffee around.”
