Quick info
About Grey Horse Inn
Grey Horse Inn is a bar in central Manchester, at 80 Portland St, a short walk from Piccadilly Gardens. The room holds only about half a dozen tables, each with wooden seats, so it suits a small group rather than a crowd. Real ale is on tap, with a limited choice of local beer that includes Hydes Ruby Mild, and Guinness is served alongside it. The pub also carries wines and spirits for those who want something other than beer. The customers range from younger pub golfers to older regulars.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the beer at this small pub, with Hydes ales and the Ruby Mild named specifically, and a Guinness described as perfect. Several call the pints well kept and reasonably priced, and the range of real ales draws repeated praise. Close behind is the traditional feel: reviewers describe an old workers bar with wooden seats and tables, a quiet drinkers pub, and small individual seating that makes a wonderful atmosphere. Staff are called friendly, efficient and welcoming, and one visitor enjoyed a match night with a mixed crowd. The main complaints are about cost and timing. One reviewer gave two stars over a cider and black priced far above other places, and another found the door opening at noon despite a sign and listing saying 11 a.m. One notes only about half a dozen tables, which filled quickly after opening. One reviewer came for a pint after a curry, since the pub serves no food.

“Hydes Ruby Mild is great as is this pub and the staff who were efficient and welcoming. This is a bit of an edit as I got my pubs mixed up sorry Grey Horse! But the great pub this with great staff still stands. I look forward to coming back!”

“Genuinely cannot give above two stars. No redeeming features. £7.05 for a cider and black. Not sure how this. Under any circumstances. Is justifiable. (Not staff costs or rent) as many. Many. Places are far cheaper. Just don’t bother. It’s a difficult recommendation.”

“Had a fantastic night watching the England vs Croatia game while down on a visit from Scotland. So many different nationalities of people there and everyone had a great time!!! The bartender was friendly and proficient. Hope to visit again sometime.”

“The Grey Horse Inn is a perfectly reasonable small pub (it seems even thinner from the outside). A mixed crowd (from drunken pub golfing youngsters to civilised old boys), robust service and local beer on tap - what more do you need? Cozy.”
- Malcolm Toghill
“Absolutely a fantastic little pub that welcome every one and for the real ale other drinks”

“You'll find the legendary Grey Horse on Manchester’s busy Portland Street. As a popular Tavern, it's reputed to be one of the smallest pubs in the city. Enjoy a wide selection of Cask ales, some great lagers and a super choice of wines and spirits and soak up its unique and inviting atmosphere.”
