Quick info
About Carlton Club
The Carlton Club is a members' club pub in Whalley Range, Manchester, on Rowan Lodge, and membership is required to buy drinks at the bar. The fully licensed bar pours local craft beers and cask ale, with wines and spirits alongside. The main room has a stage and a sound system, which carry live music, open mic nights, a monthly comedy night, film showings and spoken word evenings. Art classes and a gardening club give the calendar a daytime side as well. The Green Room hosts art exhibitions, and the function room and other rooms can be hired for weddings and birthday parties, so groups have space to gather. A pool table sits in the club for those who want a game between events.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the live events, from open mic nights and live music to a monthly comedy night and a John Waters cinema screening, all staged in a main room with a stage and a good sound system. Close behind are weddings and parties, where reviewers describe friendly staff, a large outside space that allowed a mini sports day, and drinks they found super cheap. The garden, a free pool table, a gardening club and a decent beer selection also come up, along with a laid back atmosphere and a community feel. The main complaint is about bar pricing for hired rooms. One reviewer whose friends hired a room for a 60th birthday said everyone was charged non-member rates at the bar, which proved very expensive, and felt hirers and their guests should be treated as members for the night. Another notes that membership is needed to buy drinks and costs about £20 for the year. Several describe staying on at the bar after a show and meeting friendly people, and one wedding host said staff even helped clear up outside on the night.

“My partner and I had our wedding party at the club a couple of weeks ago. It was a brilliant day. Martin, Phoebe, and the rest of the team were very friendly and helpful leading up to the event and during the long, hot day. Having the large outside space meant we could organise a mini sports day which added to the fun. Not one guest had any complaints. The staff even helped clean up outside on the night so we had less to pack away the next day. If you want an event space where you can pretty much organise anything you want, the staff are friendly and helpful, and won't break the bank, then the Carlton club's for you.”

“Lovely evening at the Carlton Club watching Steph Fraser and Doad perform. Great music venue .”

“Not the poshist of places, but I didn't go for the venue, I went for the new comedy night. Colin Manford ( yes they are brothers in case you wondered) has put on a comedy night, it will be once a month on a Wednesday. Saw 4 brilliant acts, but the stand out act for me was Vince Atta, he had me crying 😂 so funny. If you ever get the chance to see him - go! He was brilliant. I think the show was only £10 and well worth the money.”

“A decent enough club, but my friends had their 60th there, so hired a room. However, on using the bar, we were all charged non-member rates, which proved to be very expensive, not to mention mean-spirited. They should treat people who pay good money to hire rooms as members for the night and charge them and their guests accordingly. Otherwise, it's clear profiteering off already-paying punters. Not recommended tbh.”

“The Carlton Club is set in the beating heart of the Whalley Range community. It is where good people meet and where friends old & new are formed over a drink, a dance & social shindigs. We have a fully licensed bar serving local craft beers & cask ale alongside wines & spirits. There is a spacious main room with a stage where we hold numerous live music & club events as well as film showings, live comedy, art classes & spoken word evenings and more. We also have our stunning ‘Green Room’ where art exhibitions are hosted as well as more intimate gatherings. We are dog friendly & welcome all 4 legged furry friends inside & outside at the club. Dogs must be kept on a lead at all times inside and are not allowed in the Snug area.”
