About The Society Rooms

The Society Rooms is a Wetherspoon pub on Park Green in Macclesfield, set in a historic building where framed silk panels on the walls reference the town's silk heritage. The pub is a good size, with plenty of seating across the floor. Orders go through the Wetherspoon app, and the team brings food and drinks to the table. Mornings start with breakfast, including a large plate with extra pork belly bacon, and tea and Lavazza coffee come with free refills all day. Later meals include gourmet burgers and freshly made pizzas, with vegetarian choices on the menu. The bar serves real ales, with food and drink deals running alongside. A car park sits next door.

Good to know

“The pub is open for breakfast until 12 noon and offers free refills (all day every day) on tea and Lavazza coffee. For lunch and dinner, there are lighter bites, with deli deal options and vegetarian choices, gourmet burgers and freshly made pizzas. Wetherspoon has championed a wide range of drinks, including real ales, craft beers, gins and soft drinks. Table service is available via the Wetherspoon app, using our unlimited free Wi-Fi. Customer Review Summary

Reviewers most often credit the affordable, dependable pub food and drink, from a large breakfast with extra pork belly bacon to a well kept range of real ales, with one noting plenty of seating and choices for vegetarians. Ordering through the app draws repeated praise, with drinks and food arriving quickly for several, and others describe friendly staff and food that was hot and tasty. Close behind is the sense of a typical, solid pub, with framed silk panels on the walls nodding to Macclesfield's heritage. Slow or thin service is the main complaint. One diner says food took quite a while, another notes there are occasionally not enough staff, and a third was served only one of two breakfasts. Others mention overdone fried eggs, smokers taking the outdoor seats, and people plastered before 10am. One reviewer missed live music and good bitter for a bigger night out. After the missing breakfast, the manager apologised and gave a full refund.

“Terrible experience. It is clear the place is understaffed. We usually enjoy a Wetherspoons breakfast as it's cheap and cheerful - and you tend the get a standard service across the franchise. We ordered two breakfasts, only one came - when brought to the waiters attention there was no apology, waited 45 mins and second breakfast had still not arrived. The manager was excellent and gave us a full refund, he was attentive and apologised for our inconvenience (hence the additional star - would employ this guy on the spot as he delt with this issue really well) - we went somewhere else for the second guest to eat - not great. Some pretty unsavoury characters hanging around, pretty plastered before 10am, wouldn't want to be there in the afternoon to see how that progressed. Not so Cheers, but cheers anyway!”

“Nice Spoons but don't expect to sit outside in the sunshine unless you are keen on cancer. The no smoking sign is just for decoration and as usual the smokers get the best seats.”

“An historic building, as many Wetherspoons are. Friendly staff, occasionally not enough of them. A great selection of real ales, well kept, and inexpensive, of course. Paid parking tight next to the pub. Toilets are up quite a few stairs.”

“The Society Rooms is a decent spot! The food and drinks are quite affordable and pretty good overall. It's not ideal for a big night out, as I missed some music and good bitter, but it's perfect for meeting up, grabbing a bite, and that first pint. Definitely a solid starting point!”

“An excellent Wetherspoons in the heart of Macclesfield. I headed inside for the first round of drinks and to check I could order from the whole menu whilst sat outside enjoying the spring sunshine, which I could. I grabbed a menu and ordered some food and another drink which were served promptly to my table by two friendly and polite members of staff. The food was piping hot and delicious, the beer was cold and crisp and very welcome.”
