About Sutton Hall
Sutton Hall is a pub on Bullocks Ln in Macclesfield, set in a 480-year-old manor house that was once a convent and the family home of the Earls of Lucan. The building holds seven dining areas, a snug and a room called the Library, so the pub spreads its tables across many separate spaces and takes group bookings. The kitchen serves a full English breakfast with tea in a china teapot, and a Light Bites menu that includes a croque madame. Sunday roast dinners are also on offer. The food side closes with an outdoor BBQ that customers can order from.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the roast dinners, with the full English breakfast, a steak cooked medium well, the pie and the chicken risotto, and Light Bites such as the jerk chicken flatbread and croque madame also named. The old Tudor building draws repeated praise for its character, its seven dining rooms and its gardens and front terrace, and several mention the outdoor BBQ and the tea served in a china teapot. Service is described as friendly and attentive, including a group of ten handled patiently and a family gathering of 17 in the Library. The main recurring caveat is price: one diner found the fish and chips overpriced for an average plate, another called prices a bit higher than normal, and one felt the food could be better for the cost, though roasts got positive feedback. One reviewer suggests booking a table ahead because lunchtimes get busy. A midweek lunch still full inside, with food arriving quickly, closes out several accounts.

“The former country pile of the infamous 70's murderer Lord Lucan, now a very nice pub/restaurant. Internally has been left mostly as it was with 7 different dining rooms, a patio area and a gardens to eat in. The food was excellent, plenty of it, cooked beautifully and well priced. The staff were well mannered, attentive and knowledgeable about the property. From the name, the tree lined drive and the appearance you imagine it to be a top price restaurant. Don't be put off by any of that, go and try it, you'll be very pleasantly surprised. I wished we'd found it on the way up the canal instead of the way back. Many thanks. We will be back. “Sutton Hall is a fantastic venue in a beautiful location. The old Tudor building is full of character, and when the sun is shining, sitting outside at the front is absolutely delightful. We normally visit on a Sunday for their delicious roast dinners or at the weekend when we enjoy ordering from the outdoor BBQ, both of which are always excellent. Today (Wednesday) we decided to try the main menu instead, and the food was great once again. A special mention to Laura, who usually works in the kitchen but was serving today. Even on such a hot day, she was incredibly attentive, friendly and welcoming, making sure we had everything we needed. We'd also like to give a shout out to Archie, who regularly serves us on Sundays and always provides excellent service. Sutton Hall continues to be one of our favourite places to visit, thanks to its wonderful setting, great food and fantastic staff. Highly recommended!”

“What a lovely lovely place that up until yesterday I didn't know existed. Some many nice rooms/ areas to sit. Nice menu selection, really good drink selection and all the staff were spot on even with my " testing" party”

“Sutton Hall in Macclesfield is an excellent place to dine and relax. The beautiful historic building is full of character, with a warm and welcoming atmosphere that makes every visit feel special. The food was excellent, with generous portions and high quality throughout, and there was a fantastic selection of drinks to suit every taste. The service was friendly, attentive and efficient, which made the whole experience even more enjoyable. Special mention should be given to the full English breakfast and the tea served in a china teapot. A lovely venue that is well worth a visit”

“My friend and I visited Sutton Hall just after midday on 28th May. I had never been here before and was impressed by both the building and the surroundings. We were greeted in a friendly and polite manner by James who remained attentive throughout the time we were there. We didn’t have to wait long for the food or drinks and the atmosphere was really pleasant. The food was delicious - we both chose from the Light Bites on the menu and we were both pleased with the quality and quantity of the food: flatbread jerk chicken and a croque madame. We will definitely return - and special thanks to James for being so nice!”

“Imagine creating a pub out of a 480 year old manor house, family home of the Earls of Lucan and a former convent. You'll find nooks and crannies everywhere, with a snug, a library and a warren of seven different dining areas, with plenty of terraces and gardens to enjoy the sun. Sutton Hall is a proper pub: the atmosphere is friendly and unpretentious, we have a simple dedication to quality”
