About Chubby Bowl

Chubby Bowl is a Vietnamese restaurant at 107 Upper St in London. The pho menu spans beef, chicken, Saigon sate and curry chicken varieties, so the choice of broth goes beyond a single standard bowl. The banh mi list includes a vegan version filled with yellow curry tofu. Spring rolls with pork and prawn are fried crisp and sit on the menu alongside the noodle and rice dishes. The kitchen also serves vermicelli bowls with herbs and salad, plus rice plates built around roast meats. The restaurant is open Tuesday to Sunday and closed on Mondays.

“bun thit bong was banger and beef pho was satisfying, the noodles had a lot of herbs and crispy spring roll along with the roasted like charcoal fired pork. so delicious. reminds me of Brooklyn and then the beef in the pho was juicy and the noodles were really hot as you would like. definitely wouldn't want to come back for a lunch special now”

“Great traditional Vietnamese food especially for gluten free options. It’s rare as a coeliac you can get proper fried spring rolls. Just one thing to note Beef in the pho was a bit fatty.”

“Great spot tucked away in upper street that we happened to walk past. For starters I got the pork and prawn spring rolls, and once they’d cooled down were delicious. I got the roast meats combo with rice, and the pork in particular was amazing.”

“Excellent crispy pork belly rice plate! Currently £10.50 and £2 for a Viet iced coffee or soft drink as a lunch deal. Outstanding and can’t wait to come back again to try the banh mi.”

Customer Review Summary

Pho is what most reviewers come for, from the Saigon sate pho with its savory, peanuty broth to a beef pho with juicy meat and a chicken pho with generous portions. Spring rolls come close behind, with several reviewers praising the crispy fried ones, including a coeliac who found them rare to get gluten free. The noodle and vermicelli bowls, the roasted pork, a crispy pork belly rice plate and a papaya salad also earn mentions, along with a yellow curry tofu vegan banh mi and a Vietnamese iced coffee described as a perfect balance of coffee, ice and sweet milk. Several reviewers call the portions solid and the pricing good, and one who has eaten in Vietnam calls the food authentic. The one recurring caution is small: one reviewer found the beef in the pho a bit fatty, and another said the pork and prawn spring rolls were only delicious once they had cooled down. One diner notes the pho arrived with everything on the side, exactly as ordered.
