About Cay Tre Shoreditch
Cay Tre Shoreditch is a Vietnamese restaurant at 301 Old St in London, run as a small canteen that has been cooking since 2003. The pho is simmered for 24 hours, and the menu also lists a grilled pork vermicelli bowl, bun cha Ha Noi, along with spring rolls in shrimp and imperial versions. A sharing platter is on the menu, and a set lunch menu runs as a separate option. Saigon lager is poured to go with the food. The dining room is small. The kitchen also caters for offices and events, with canapés, buffets, sit-down meals and individual lunches.

Customer Review Summary
Pho draws the most mentions, and the garlicky pho and garlic chicken pho stand out, with two reviewers saying a waiter's recommendation led them to it. Close behind are the grilled pork vermicelli bowls, including the Hanoi BBQ pork with its pork patty, and the spring rolls, which one reviewer says held proper prawns, pork mince and wood ear mushroom. Others praise the lemon-cured beef salad, the beef stew, the sharing platter and the Spring Bowl with crispy rolls and fresh herbs on a set lunch. A Saigon lager gets a nod as refreshing and light. Staff are described as friendly, fast and welcoming, and the dining room as small, warm and cosy. The one recurring trade-off is cost: a delivery customer found it pricier than other places nearby, though the portion was generous enough that the extra spring roll went unneeded. One long-time regular who works nearby has eaten here for over 20 years and says the menu keeps improving. Another reviewer mentions a free birthday drink.

“I came here for my birthday with family and want to shout out our waiter Diego who was very warm and friendly from the start and made us feel well looked after. I also got a free birthday drink and really enjoyed the recommendation of the garlic chicken pho!! Nice ambiance and easy for us to talk.”

“Ordered the Hanoi BBQ pork (bun cha ha noi) on deliveroo with an extra imperial spring roll. Excellent authentic flavours, I really liked the pork Pattie in the vermecilli bowl. The spring rolls had decent, generous filling, they had proper prawns, pork mince and wood ear mushroom. The price was more expensive than some other places in the area but portion was generous, I really didn't need to add that extra spring roll because I'm proper stuffed now!”

“I’ve been coming here for over 20 years as I work just around the corner. The menu has only ever become more interesting and the food better and better in that time. Today I had the £19:95 set lunch menu with the ‘piggy’ aubergine starter and Spring Bowl as a main course. The latter was improved over last time I had it, with lots of fresh raw herbs and greens and excellent crispy rolls on top. I really recommend Cay Tre for lunch: the service is brisk, the food is fresh, and very delicious.”
