About Kanchana's Kitchen

Kanchana's Kitchen is a Thai restaurant in London, working from a room at the back of the Kings Arms pub near Waterloo station, with its address at 25 Roupell St. Main courses arrive with rice as individual meals rather than dishes to share. Pad Thai and massaman curry sit among the mains, and fish cakes open the starter list. Seating is at stools and bar-stool tables, which suits a quick sit-down meal. Tables are reserved, and diners get about an hour at the table.

Customer Review Summary

The recurring complaint is time and comfort. Several say tables are reserved and diners are given an hour, and one felt rushed to leave right after finishing. Others mention uncomfortable bar stools and a rammed pub where getting a drink at the bar took effort. On the food, one reviewer found the pad Thai with chicken far too sweet, another found the chicken in a Kwatiew Pad Keemow stringy and undercooked, and a third found the dishes toned down compared with Thai food elsewhere. One table of six had mains arrive at different times, and one reviewer was seated quickly despite no booking and a full house.

“This place is such a gem!! Even without the amazing dishes, the atmosphere feels so local, you could easily think you’re eating somewhere in Thailand. Every single dish, especially the curries, tastes incredible. I always go for the green chicken curry, and I absolutely love the flavour and the warmth of their food. The restaurant shares the same floor with a pub, and it is usually busy as it’s quite popular but it suits the atmosphere. Thank you Kanchana’s Kitchen for existing!! 💚🌿”

“A 10/10 recommendation from a friend who always loves to comes here & it did not disappoint, it's a hidden gem on the back streets of Waterloo.. 🥬 Authentic Thai Food in a great atmosphere, the decor inside is really nice & it's very light and airy inside. Food also delicious, pretty spicy levels for the Thai green however that's coming from someone with a low spice tolerance!! 🌶️🌶️”

“I am a repeat customer but was very disappointed with the food this time. I ordered the #10 Kwatiew Pad Keemow with chicken. Although the noodle was nice and spicy, the chicken pieces were very stringy and undercooked, and I didn't eat any of it. We were given a table with bar stools and it wasn't the most comfortable to sit. The place was packed and we felt quite rushed and had to leave immediately after finishing our email. I did not have a good experience and it's unlikely that I will visit the place again.”

“Atmosphere is nice in the pub side and service is friendly for a pint. Food at Kanchana’s was fair but not my favourite Thai, I will not be coming back as we were given an hour to eat even before sitting, all tables are ‘reserved’ before they are sitting you down, they are already telling you to rush and leave in an hour. Which is I think very little time for eating. Portions are fair but in my view they are pricey for the taste and over all in general.”

“Hidden kitchen out the back of a busy pub, my colleague had recommended. Even though it was busy and we couldn't book, we didn't have to wait for a table and we got seated quickly, though on uncomfortable stools. We barely had chance to look at the menu before we were asked to order, also noting we had yet to get to the bar to order drinks. We ordered the mixed platter which was good value and a great selection, and though the portion size of my chicken pad Thai was enormous, I found it far too sweet and couldn't eat it. Nothing wrong with the dish, just personal preference. Additionally all out main courses came out at different times which we weren't aware of so our table of 6 ate at different times. I would still recommend, but probably wouldn't visit again myself.”
