About The Lecture Room & Library at sketch

At 9 Conduit St in London, The Lecture Room & Library at sketch holds Michelin's top three-star accolade, awarded in 2019 and maintained since. The a la carte format arrives as multiple smaller plates across appetizers, mains, and desserts, with a grand dessert of several different sweets served together as a finale. A fully dedicated vegetarian menu runs alongside the a la carte and tasting menu, and bread and cheese courses are served without appearing on the menu itself. A sommelier consults on choices from the wine list. Meals here extend across several hours, giving diners time to take in the art pieces displayed throughout the room. Children are accommodated despite the formal setting. The restaurant is walk-in, and it opens Tuesday to Saturday, closing Mondays and Sundays.

Customer Review Summary

The grand dessert, a finale of several small desserts served at the end of the tasting progression, comes up again and again as the meal's high point, alongside the sprawling format of small plates that lets diners work through around 30 different dishes in a sitting. Close behind, reviewers repeatedly single out standout courses like the daal, a langoustine starter, scallops, veal, and a Paloma aperitivo, along with unlisted bread and cheese courses that surface as pleasant surprises. The sommelier draws specific praise for guiding wine choices, and several mention the kitchen accommodating pescatarian and vegetarian diets with a dedicated vegetarian tasting menu. The service is consistently described as attentive without being overbearing, and the room itself, with its art and seasonal decor, is repeatedly called part of the experience. Reviewers note the meal runs three to four hours, treating it as an occasion for anniversaries and birthdays rather than a quick dinner. No recurring complaints appear among these accounts.

“The best dining experience I’ve ever had. The food was wonderful, an elegant banquet full of flavours, techniques and textures, what made me understand why this restaurant deserves *** Michelin stars. I felt emotional more than once throughout the meal as someone that loves food. The synchronised ballet of the floor staff brought to the experience the “wow” factor, just impeccable. All in a beautiful room, surrounded by art and an impressive decoration. An evening to be remembered forever 👏🏾 👏🏾”

“What an experience! The food is obviously of the greatest quality. It is modern French and it's more like a journey of flavours and sights. The restaurant were very accommodating as we're pescatarian and so they made changes to their tasting menu accordingly. Each menu item is really a combination of smaller dishes with amazing presentation. The grand dessert at the end is something special in itself. Staff are attentive but not overbearing. The restaurant is an experience in itself and you will be here for many hours which gives you an opportunity to take in the atmosphere and the plush decor. There are works of art scattered throughout. We came here for a special occasion and it was really worth it. Although this is a 3 star Michelin restaurant, it's not overly formal and they accommodate children (our son is 12 but we did see a family with a younger child as well).”

“Five Stars - One of the Best Dining Experiences of Our Lives! If you are in London and looking for the ultimate splash meal, The Lecture Room & Library at sketch is absolutely it. We celebrated our anniversary here, and they went completely above and beyond our expectations. It was a carefully designed, immersive evening where you are easily there for a good 3 to 4 hours, and we felt incredibly special from start to finish. The service is unmatched. The staff is exceptionally attentive, helping you into your seat and opening doors at every turn. Even the chef made the rounds to greet everyone personally. As for the food, the fine French cuisine is outstanding. Having a fully dedicated vegetarian menu was a fantastic change of pace for us. We ended up trying around 30 different small plates throughout the night. It is genuinely hard to pick a favorite because almost every single dish was made with such immense care, but the daal was a major standout. The dining progression is full of wonderful surprises. Both the exceptional bread and cheese courses aren't even listed on the menu, and the grand dessert is a spectacular finale consisting of six different, beautifully crafted desserts. This was a flawless, world-class experience. If you want a meal that is worth every single penny for a special occasion, do not hesitate to book this!”

“A flawless, unforgettable culinary journey with modern twists in a very unique environment. - The food, although with a modern twist which is not my favorite, is executed to absolute perfection, with lots of care for every single guest. The proposal is innovative and the only way I could describe it is a journey of flavors and feelings. - The staff, not only they are extremely welcoming and kind, they have a very deep knowledge of every part of the restaurant, piece of art and of course the dishes. The sommelier goes above and beyond with each choice. And lastly being able to comment the memorable event with Mr Stucki himself is the cherry on the top. - The atmosphere as well is special. It changes with the seasons and events of the year. And the level of detail is not small, grand pieces with renown artists which you can find out more in the complementary booklet. Toilets impeccable and full of personality. Overall, on of the best restaurants in the world.”

Good to know

“The Lecture Room & Library was awarded its first Michelin star in 2005, and a second star in 2012. The restaurant was recognised with Michelin's top three stars accolade in 2019 and has maintained the status to this day. Designed by Gabhan O’Keefe, The Lecture Room is decorated in shades of orange, with richly upholstered armchairs in purple and crimson. The design is opulent, with ivory walls of silver thread, an ornate plasterwork ceiling, and crystal-encrusted bathrooms. The Library room is embellished with fabrics of magenta and silver, with a lavishly painted ceiling. The adjacent Millicent Fawcett Room has beautiful wallpapering, glittering chandeliers, and sumptuous curtains in gold, silver, and pomegranate.”
