About Tayyabs

Tayyabs is a Punjabi restaurant in London on Fieldgate St, where the tandoori lamb chops arrive at the table sizzling. The menu also includes karahi curries served for sharing and a mixed grill, with generous portions across the Punjabi dishes. All of the food is halal. Guests bring their own drinks, and a bottle opener is put on the table. Bookings are taken online, and a person with a clipboard manages arrivals at the door when a queue forms. A complimentary salad and sauces come to each table.

Customer Review Summary

Lamb chops are the centerpiece, described repeatedly as sizzling, smoky and juicy with deep char, and several reviewers say they go straight for them. Close behind are the karahi and lamb or mutton curries, the mixed grill and the saag paneer. Paneer tikka, garlic and coriander naan, chips and spicy prawns also get named. Portions are called generous, and the food arrives quickly even when the room is packed. The main complaint is the setting. Reviewers describe it as extremely busy, very loud and tightly seated, and one wishes staff placed groups more thoughtfully. Another describes a man at the door who rudely insisted a booking was for four after a phone call had changed it to five, and who quoted a wait despite empty tables downstairs. Two waiters then rescued the family's Eid dinner. Some reviewers mention bringing their own drinks, and one notes the complimentary salad and sauces. One diner says the smell of the grill follows them home.

“The reviews here truly underestimate how phenomenal this spot is. Tayyabs was truly, truly incredible. We got a variety of dishes, but not a single one didn't absolutely hit. The lamb was unreal, the paneer was incredible, even the papadams were awesome. Recommended without any hesitation – I hope to be back soon!”

“Tayyabs in Whitechapel was an incredible meal from start to finish. The mixed grill was packed with flavour and cooked really well and the salad was fresh and a great accompaniment. We also had the lamb curry and lentil curry which were both absolutely incredible with so much flavour in every bite. The food was full of authentic Punjabi flavours and the whole meal was exactly what you want from a place like Tayyabs. I can see why it has such a great reputation in London.”

“Good place. Reasonably priced. Clean and nice atmosphere. The food is halal. They DO serve alcohol. So u will get the odd roudy group there. The lamb and chicken was very good.”

“Halal, Delicious food, good hygiene, friendly and professional staff. Mr Shaqib was very helpful to guide us through the menu, and service was excellent. Best lamp chops. Do let them know about the spices medium or hot. If you have ordered extra they will pack it for you rather than leaving a box on a table. Complimentary salad and sauces. Lively but you have to wait in a que for quality food and nice hospitality!!!!!! Thank you!!”

“I've visited this place quite a few times over the years, and one thing that has always remained consistent is the quality of the food. I genuinely can't fault it—the food is exceptionally good and is the main reason I keep returning. The only drawback is that the restaurant can get extremely busy and very loud, particularly during peak times. Depending on the type of group you're dining with, I think the staff could do a better job of considering seating arrangements and placing customers in areas that are better suited to their party. The customer service has improved over the years, which is great to see, but I still feel there is room for further improvement. A little more attentiveness and awareness of customers' needs would enhance the overall experience. One feature I do appreciate is that you can bring your own drinks, which helps keep the overall cost of dining out more reasonable. Overall, the outstanding food outweighs the negatives, and despite a few areas that could be improved, it's a restaurant that I would happily continue to visit and recommend.”
