About The Monsoon - Best Indian Restaurant & Takeaway

On Brick Lane in London, The Monsoon - Best Indian Restaurant & Takeaway is a Bangladeshi restaurant with a menu of 158 dishes running from Bangladeshi curries to South Indian plates. Among the curries are jalfrezi and vindaloo, and starters include onion bhajee, with naan and rice served alongside. Orders are taken by waiters at the table rather than at a counter, and reservations are recommended, with the restaurant open daily. A private dining room is available for groups, and a step-free entrance suits visitors with mobility needs. For those who prefer to eat elsewhere, the restaurant offers both takeaway and delivery. Customer Review Summary

Biryani and the shared curry meals draw the most repeat mentions, with the meat thali, mango lassi, and a chilli cheese naan also singled out for praise, alongside a Chicken Karai Tikka Mint paired with butter naan. Service is described repeatedly as warm and attentive, with several diners noting extra poppadoms, a free drink, or being seated promptly even late in the evening, and staff are consistently called friendly across visits. That said, complaints recur around inconsistent kitchen execution: several reviewers found curries greasy or underseasoned, with one korma described as flavorless and a Groupon meal noting lamb undercooked and chicken overcooked. Some describe pushy service, including a birthday dessert that was promised but never brought, and one diner found the poppadoms overly oily. Most seriously, one reviewer, identifying as Bengali, reported curries that tasted off and said they felt ill afterward, raising concern about whether other diners were served the same dishes. Despite this, many return for Sunday lunches and describe generous portions and being charged exactly what they ordered.

“Here's a polished version of your review: The service and atmosphere were excellent. I visited with a few colleagues and we had a lovely evening. Nas was incredibly helpful, friendly, and accommodating, making us feel very welcome throughout our visit. The drinks kept coming, with only one occasion where there was a slightly longer wait, but everything else was smooth and well organised. There was plenty of food, and the flavours were absolutely incredible. Every dish was packed with flavour and genuinely memorable. The restaurant and toilets were both clean and well maintained. The décor was pleasant, and I especially liked the floor lighting outside, which added a nice touch to the overall atmosphere. The seating was comfortable, and it wasn't too noisy, making it easy to relax and enjoy the evening.”

“We stumbled into this location on our way to another restaurant and have absolutely NO regrets. The food was excellent and the service was amazing. If you get lucky to have Ahmed as your server, you’re in good hands. He even recommended the best dishes. Personally I loved the lamb but the chicken and naan options are endless. So if you’re in the area, don’t miss out on a chance to find your new favorite Indian restaurant!”

“Hubby difficult man to please. He can tell you if the wine is uncorked too long, if the meat is starting to be on the turn. But here he enjoyed everything that was put in front of him. Lovely service too.”
  • Ebony Louise
“Good food at good prices. Nice atmosphere for socialising.”
  • Alison Blake
“Had a late lunch here and the food was excellent. We had a Fish Thali and a Meat Thali. Generous portion with lovely variety of flavours. Tender meats and beautiful fish. So pleased the man outside signposted this place.”
