Quick info
About Taste of Pakistan (Tooting)
Taste of Pakistan (Tooting) is a Pakistani restaurant in London, at 169-171 Mitcham Rd, with a spacious dining room arranged in traditional baithak-style seating. That larger room suits families and groups sharing several dishes. The menu includes Charsi Karahi, made with lamb, and chapli kebab served with a tangy chutney. Kabuli pilau covers the rice side for those who want something to go with the grilled and curried dishes. Takeaway and delivery are not the focus of the room, which is built around sit-down meals. All of the food is halal.

Customer Review Summary
Lamb and chicken karahi come up most, with the Charsi lamb karahi called full of flavour and cooked perfectly, and another diner calling the lamb karahi very tasty. Chapli kebab follows, described as well cooked with a tangy chutney, alongside Sindhi biryani with tender chicken, a mixed grill and grilled wings. Several single out the naan for staying soft instead of going cold and hard. Portions are repeatedly called generous, with one group of six taking plenty home, and a few call the bill economical. Families and larger groups mention the spacious, clean room. Reviewers are not unanimous. One diner found the Afghani tikka not to their taste, and another says the kabuli rice used to be sweeter and richer under the old franchise. The sharpest criticism comes from a second disappointing visit, where the chapli kebab arrived undercooked and the lamb karahi lacked the expected authentic taste. Staff never checked on the only occupied table, so the diner walked to the counter to ask for the bill.

“We have visited Taste of Pakistan twice, and unfortunately, both experiences have been disappointing. I visited again yesterday, and the restaurant was completely empty. We ordered the Chapli Kebab and Lamb Karahi. When the food arrived, the Chapli Kebab was undercooked, and the Lamb Karahi did not have the authentic taste you would normally expect. The service was equally disappointing. Despite being the only customers in the restaurant, the staff were inattentive. I had to get up and go to the counter myself just to ask for the bill. Nobody came to check on us, ask how the food was, or see if we needed anything. Overall, I am very unhappy with the food and service. I would not recommend this restaurant based on my experiences. Nasir, if you are the owner, the staff are unfortunately damaging the reputation and hard work you have put into this business. There is clearly potential here, but significant improvements are needed in both food quality and customer service.”

“❗👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼❗ I’ve done nearly 100 reviews and have tried a lot of Pakistani restaurants, so I’ve got a pretty good idea of what separates a genuinely great restaurant from an average one. My three biggest factors are affordability, taste and quality, and Taste of Pakistan in Tooting absolutely blew the charts for me. It’s honestly become my favourite Pakistani restaurant. We ordered Platter No. 2 and the chicken karahi, and I genuinely don’t understand some of the reviews claiming the food is bland or dry. My experience was the complete opposite. Everything was packed with flavour, cooked properly and absolutely delicious. The portions were also humongous. We spent around £100 for six people and still had plenty — and I mean plenty — left over to take home. With restaurants at a similar price point, we usually either finish everything because the portions aren't enough or leave feeling only relatively full. Here, we were comfortably full AND had loads to take home. Another thing that gave me a nice chuckle was seeing some of the owner’s replies to reviews — definitely worth having a read 😂. Service was EXCELLENT. The Question Once you try the food here, you’ll genuinely struggle to find the same quality elsewhere. It sets the bar so high that you’ll probably find yourself comparing other Pakistani restaurants to this one afterwards. After nearly 100 reviews, I can confidently say this is my favourite Pakistani restaurant so far. Absolutely worth trying.”
