Quick info
About Afghan Palace
On Mitcham Rd in London, Afghan Palace is an Afghan restaurant at 169-171, built around slow-cooked mains and rice dishes. The charsi karahi comes in lamb and chicken versions, and the Kabuli pilau is rice with lamb on the bone underneath. The chapli kebab is served with salad and naan, so it works as a complete plate on its own. Tables order from a menu that pairs grilled meats with bread, and the naans come in large sizes. Each table gets a salad, two sauces and a jug of water at the start of the meal.

Customer Review Summary
Chapli kebab is the dish reviewers raise most, described as juicy, well-spiced, fresh and soft, with one diner adding that it is worth ordering for the taste. Close behind is the charsi karahi, in lamb and chicken versions, called rich, hearty and delicious, and the Kabuli pilau with lamb on the bone, which one reviewer calls fluffy and aromatic and another names as the reason to visit. Masala fish bites earn praise for their crunch, though one reviewer ranks them a no, and the naans, including a towering peshwari naan, are called huge. Complaints centre on service and consistency. One table was neglected and had to get up to flag down a waiter, and another says starters arrived together with mains. One reviewer found most grilled items near overdone, and a lamb seekh kebab was too thick with too much ginger. Another could not order dum pukht or chicken roast. Portions are called generous, and one family took leftovers home in a container after a meal that began with salad, two sauces and a jug of water.

“The food was great, very well cooked, a combination of flavours that complimented quite well. Refreshing to go to a restaurant and enjoy the meal you’re having with no complaints. Our table was served by Umar (I hope I spelt that right) very attentive, polite and respectful and not overbearing, explained our meals to us and gave us his personal recommendations. Very knowledgeable on the menu items and what worked well together. A well run restaurant 👏🏾”

“⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Very Late Review – Afghan Palace in South West London is a good spot! I went there once with my family. We were in the area for some other business and got hungry, so we decided to check out Afghan Palace. This review is long overdue it’s been a while and I kept forgetting to write it, but this place definitely deserves one. This is a very good spot in south west London if you’re craving authentic Afghan cuisine. The décor is vibrant and welcoming with a modern and classy look. There’s a lovely floral and flowery theme throughout, so if you like floral designs you’ll really appreciate the appearance. The staff are nice and attentive, and the outside entrance door is big and perfect for disability access. They have a great variety of Afghan dishes and grill options. I ordered the chapli kebab with Kabuli pilau, lamb chops, masala fish bites (with dips and salad), and lamb karahi. Everything was excellent. The chapli kebabs were grilled perfectly juicy, well-spiced, and full of flavour. The Kabuli pilau was fluffy, aromatic, and delicious. The lamb chops were tender and tasty. The masala fish bites were my favourite very flavoursome, perfectly coated and breaded with a great crunch. The lamb karahi was rich, hearty, and packed with flavour. The white sauce and other accompaniments were spot on. The mango lassi is sweet, thick, and hits the spot very refreshing. They also have lemonade and many other nice drinks. Address: The White House, 169-171 Mitcham Rd, London SW17 9PG Overall, you can’t go wrong with Afghan Palace. If you’re in the south west London area, I would definitely recommend you go. It’s one of the strong options for Afghan food around here. Parking can be difficult because it’s on a busy high street. You’ll probably need to find a side street nearby. A warm and tasty Afghan restaurant worth visiting. Highly recommended! 🇦🇫🍛”

“The kabli pilau is the reason to visit! They also do a great charsi chicken, the masala fish (starter) is good, and the naans are huge!! Another Halal gem in Tooting.”

“Few of the items I wanted to order were not available e.g. dum pukht, chicken roast, chicken roast with rice. I ordered chapli kabab (3 kababs, salad, large naan and chutney) £18, half chicken karahi £20, 5 wings £6, fries £3 and water £250. The quantity was generous. Kabab were tasty. Chicken Karahi was Okaish. Most of the restaurant was empty and the environment was not very lively. My bill was 49.50. It was not outstanding to be recommended by me.”
