About Mar & Terra

Mar & Terra is a Portuguese restaurant at 714 Lea Bridge Rd in London, with a menu centred on seafood. The seafood platter gathers mussels, clams, tiger prawns and crab in a single dish, and a seafood banquet special extends that approach for those who want more. Bread comes to the table, and portions run large. Drinks include a wine selection, and sangria is served by the jug. Dessert is part of the menu too. Short-term specials are advertised on the restaurant's socials.

Customer Review Summary

Seafood draws the most praise, from a fresh, perfectly seasoned seafood platter to a seafood banquet special a returning diner enjoyed. Close behind is the welcome, described as warm and like being invited into someone's home, with friendly staff who are not overpowering. Dessert earns its own mentions, including chocolate mousse and a light, creamy bolo de bolacha, along with the bread and a sangria one reviewer urges ordering by the jug. Large portions sent several diners home with leftovers, and the room is called spotless and relaxed. The caveats are small: one reviewer joked about the size of the bill though felt the meal justified it, and wanted fewer mussels and clams on the platter in favour of more tiger prawns and crab. One suggests following the restaurant on social media for short-term specials. After a small taste of the Serradura, one diner bought a whole dessert to take home.

“I'm ridiculously picky when it comes to restaurants. Before I've even looked at the menu, I can usually tell whether I'm going to enjoy myself. It's the vibe, the atmosphere, the energy... you just know. I've walked into places before where everything looked nice, but something just felt off, and I couldn't relax enough to enjoy my meal. The moment I walked into Mar & Terra, though, it felt different. It was warm, welcoming, relaxed, and I instantly felt comfortable. That was the first green flag. ❤️ Then came the food... This was my first time trying Portuguese food and... where has it been all my life?! 🤯 We ordered the seafood platter and WOW. Everything tasted so fresh, perfectly seasoned and packed with flavour. Every bite made me want the next one. And don't even get me started on the bread... whoever made that bread deserves a raise because I genuinely could've eaten about five baskets of it. 😂🥖 For dessert, I ordered the chocolate mousse, which was rich, silky and absolutely delicious. Then I decided to try the tiniest little taste of the bolo de bolacha... honestly, it wasn't even a proper spoonful. 🤏😂 Big mistake. One tiny taste and I immediately said, "Nope... I need one of these to take home!" 🤣 That's how good it was. Light, creamy, not overly sweet, and easily one of the best desserts I've had in a long time. The restaurant itself was spotless, calm and welcoming. I absolutely loved that it wasn't overcrowded or deafeningly loud. You could actually sit back, enjoy your food and have a proper conversation without shouting across the table. Every member of staff we spoke to was friendly, welcoming and attentive. They made us feel looked after without hovering over us every five minutes. Now... the bill? 😂 Let's just say my bank account looked at me like, "Excuse me?" 💸🤣 But after leaving, I couldn't even complain because the food, the service and the whole experience genuinely made it feel worth it. If I could make one tiny suggestion, it'd be to tweak the seafood platter a little. There were lots of mussels and clams, which were lovely, but I'd happily swap a few of those for extra tiger prawns and a bit more crab. 🦐🦀 Everything was delicious I just wanted even more of the seafood I love! Safe to say, this won't be my last visit. If you've been thinking about trying Portuguese food, let this be your sign. And whatever you do... DO NOT leave without trying the Serradura. One tiny taste convinced me to buy a whole dessert to take home, and I regret absolutely nothing. 😂❤️🇵🇹”
