Quick info
About La Gamba - Spanish Tapas Bar & Restaurant
La Gamba is a family-run Spanish tapas restaurant in London, on the Southbank beside the Royal Festival Hall and near Waterloo station. The kitchen draws on the Atlantic coast of Galicia and serves fresh British seafood, with wines, sangrias and vermouths from across Spain. Tapas are ordered several dishes per person, with the mussels tosta and the patatas bravas among them. A set option lets diners choose one dish from each of three categories, and a six-dish tasting menu comes with a wine pairing. Brunch is a bottomless sangria format with Cava included. Basque cheesecake and crema catalana make up the dessert list. An allergen menu is available on request, and a private dining room gives groups a space of their own.

Customer Review Summary
Diners most often come for the set tapas menus, the choose-three-dishes option and the six-dish tasting menu with wine pairing, which reviewers describe as generous, good value and delicious. Patatas bravas get repeated praise, and individual reviewers single out the smoky eggplant dip with chips, cod fritters, mint chicken, mussels tosta and a balanced croquette. Basque cheesecake and crema catalana come up for dessert. A gluten free diner says the allergen menu answered every question, and several mention friendly, quick service before the theatre or a train. Pace is the recurring complaint. The bottomless sangria brunch was called very slow, with one waiter said to have had an attitude and a discretionary service charge that came as a surprise, and the sangria was not the best that reviewer had tried. Another finds the food a little pricey for what it is and the veal burger just okay. On one tasting menu visit, plates took a long while, the waiter noticed, and the table received a free top up of wine.

“We were at the Royal Festival Hall for our daughter's graduation and I booked a table here as it looked very good value. We had the £25 option where you choose 1 dish from each of 3 categories. Sometimes you worry that tapas portions will be too small, but we had a good variety of generous size dishes, and they were all delicious. The crema catalana for dessert was excellent. Very friendly and quick service and perfect location”

“We were passing by and found this little gem. Staff were friendly and professional, food really tasty and they had my favourite gin too. I recommend and I’ll be back.”

“We had the prawns, the chicken, the patats bravas, the mussels tosta, the freshly made bread, the fish..... It was all amazing. Really well done. The flavours were good, the setup was good. Compliments to the chef.”

“We stopped at La Gamba for lunch and had an excellent experience. They serve authentic Spanish tapas, and everything we ordered was delicious. We tried the eggplant dip with chips, cod fritters, chicken orzo, and the tortilla of the day. The eggplant dip was the absolute standout—smoky, silky smooth, and incredibly flavorful, with a rich, creamy finish. The cod fritters, chicken orzo, and stuffed tortilla were all excellent and close contenders. For dessert, my kids shared the Basque cheesecake, and it was simply outstanding—rich, creamy, and about as classic a Basque cheesecake as you could hope for. The service was friendly and efficient, with our food arriving promptly. The restaurant also offers lovely seating both indoors and outside, making it a great spot for a relaxed lunch in central London.”

“Truly a wonderful spot on an outrageously hot day. Everyone was so friendly, welcoming, and it seemed like they all get on and treat each other kindly. The food was immaculate - I picked the three for £25 option - and they advertise their fresh-and-local supply chain which is ideal. I couldn't have asked for a nicer sangria, colder water, or tastier food! Perfect for a chilled evening with friends or if you've got an hour to fill before jumping on a train out of Waterloo. Thanks all 😊”
