  “I missed the schnitzel from my Austria trip so much, so I was excited to finally visit this Austrian restaurant that had been on my list for quite a while. It turned out to be the perfect place to celebrate my friend's birthday. Everything we ordered was excellent, from side dishes to the mains and desserts. Even my friends, who were trying Austrian food for the first time, thoroughly enjoyed it. The schnitzel in particular was authentic and absolutely delicious. The service was warm, welcoming, and attentive, which made our little celebration even more enjoyable. I'm very happy we chose this place for our gathering and would definitely love to come back.”

  “After not being in Austria in a few months I started really craving proper Austrian food and this didn't disappoint. The food was very authentic and the menu was great, especially the cake section. The portions didn't disappoint either. If I lived in London I would definitely visit again”

  “Birthday Let Down I had wanted to visit this restaurant for a long time, so my husband pre-booked a table for my birthday earlier this week. Unfortunately, the experience was very disappointing. When we arrived, the restaurant was empty, yet we were seated in very close proximity to a staff member having a loud work conversation at a neighbouring table. Once that ended, he began an even louder hands-free phone call. It immediately disrupted what should have been a special, intimate evening. We discreetly asked to move tables, given how quiet the restaurant was. Instead of simply relocating us, the waitress asked the staff member to move. We then had to sit through him questioning who had complained — clearly within earshot of us — which made an already awkward situation even more uncomfortable. Speaking in German did not lessen the awkwardness. To her credit, our waitress remained friendly and cheerful throughout, despite the situation. We tried to reset and focus on the meal. The starters were very tasty and satisfying, which gave us hope. However, the veal schnitzels were underwhelming — dry in texture and lacking real flavour. The wine we ordered with our mains was forgotten and we had to chase it, despite being the only customers in the restaurant. By this point, the overall atmosphere felt flat. Even the choice of playing 80s disco music seemed completely at odds with a candlelit Austrian restaurant and did little to create a special or cohesive ambience. We chose to take cakes home rather than stay for dessert, as we were no longer in the mood to linger. Even then, the cakes were forgotten on the bill and we had to ask for them to be added and pay separately before leaving. We couldn’t have been there for more than 45 minutes. What makes this especially upsetting is that the restaurant knew it was a birthday celebration, yet no effort was made to acknowledge it or make the evening feel special. My husband had gone to significant effort and expense to organise something he knew I had been looking forward to, and we left feeling unwelcome and uncomfortable. He was so disappointed that he took me out to a different restaurant a few nights later instead.”

  “We finally got around to trying Kipferl, and the 20-30 minute wait was no big deal—totally worth it, especially with the place buzzing and keeping things lively. Food-wise, it was great, especially since we’d just come back from Austria and were craving that real-deal taste. We weren’t let down at all. The veal schnitzel was super tender and light, with this nice subtle sweetness that made it pop. Frankfurter was spot on too—juicy and full of flavour. The potato salad was a winner: creamy, not too vinegary, and way lighter on the onions than the ones we’ve had. Beers hit the spot—I went for the Maisel’s Weisse and loved it, crisp and easy-drinking. Being an Austrian joint with a big rep, it’d be cool if they did draughts imports, but the bottle was solid enough. Capped it off with the linzer torte, which was just perfect—flaky crust, not overly sweet, easy 10/10. One of the top spots in London for sure. You can tell they put real thought into everything. Can’t wait to go again.”

  “We visited Kipferl a few weeks ago to fulfil my friend’s wish for an authentic Wiener Schnitzel and a proper slice of Eszterházy cake. As Hungarians from near the Austrian border, the menu felt like a nostalgic trip back to our childhood kitchens. The Wiener Schnitzel did not disappoint – perfectly cooked and served with a potato salad that hit all the right notes. The Eszterházy cake was a standout – beautifully made and truly reminiscent of homemade versions, which are rare to find done well. The overall selection of traditional Austrian dishes was impressive. Staff were friendly and welcoming – the lady who served us was particularly attentive, and the Hungarian waiter was a delight: talkative and kind. While the prices are on the higher side, this is central London, and the quality of food certainly justifies it. The only downside was the outdoor seating – quite cramped and the furniture felt a bit flimsy. Understandably, space is limited, but sturdier and more comfortable seating would really elevate the experience. Overall, we were very satisfied and would happily return for another taste of home.”
