About Kanada-Ya

On Upper St in London, Kanada-Ya is a Japanese restaurant at number 35 that centres its menu on ramen. Tonkotsu ramen sits alongside a truffle ramen and a Cha Mori ramen, giving the bowls more than one style. The menu has multiple options beyond those bowls, and gluten free dishes are available for diners who need them. Groups can pre-order and book group meals, so a larger party can arrange the whole meal in advance of the visit.

Customer Review Summary

Reviewers most often praise the ramen itself, naming the tonkotsu, the truffle ramen and the Cha Mori ramen, with several calling it among the best in London. Fried chicken and gluten free options also get a mention, and one group booking of 24 ran smoothly with friendly staff. One longtime fan says prices have risen while the food declined, with the pork now incredibly dry.

“Having not yet visited Japan, this is my benchmark for tonkotsu ramen. I love the tonkotsu and truffle ramens. Both easily a 9+ / 10. Have visited countless Ramen restaurants in the US, as well as a few others in London, and only Shoryu Ramen falls a little short. Nothing else is close. Clean facility, great customer service, and spectacular ramen. Edit: 10/21/26 Prices have increased, while quality of the food has decreased. This is most unfortunate, as it is no longer the benchmark. The pork is probably the biggest let down. Not sure why it’s so incredibly dry now. It’s a shame that Ippudo On Essex Rd was forced to close as their ramen was superior to Kanada-ya.”
