Quick info
About Hispania
Hispania is a Spanish restaurant at 72-74 Lombard St in London, housed in the former Lloyds Bank building. Michelin-starred chef Marcos Morán stands behind the menu, which is built around small plates shared across the table, among them gambas al ajillo, black rice with prawns and octopus with mashed sweet potato. The servers are Spanish, and the staff uniforms carry the Spanish flag. A wine list runs alongside the food. Reservations are required. An upstairs private space can be rented for events, which gives groups a room of their own. The restaurant stands close to Bank station.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the croquettes, with the mushroom version called creamy and perfectly fried and another diner saying they melt in the mouth. Close behind are the shared small plates, including gambas al ajillo, black rice with prawns and octopus with mashed sweet potato, plus the pistachio ice cream and the cheesecake. Staff draw steady praise for friendly, helpful service, with the maitre d and waiters offering food and wine pairing advice, and one team accommodating a booking mix up. Diners describe a spacious, decorated room with room between tables, suited to dates and business dinners. The main caveat is cost: the bread is cold and charged per roll, one table's small plates and drinks for two came to a high total, and another reviewer calls it a special occasion place. A few found the desserts only okay, and one found the Sauvignon Blanc sweeter than preferred. One birthday table was given a jar of branded raw honey.

“*Birthday Dinner Hispania is a beautiful space, and the staff uniforms with the Spanish flag are a lovely touch. Fun fact: the building used to be a Lloyds bank. We shared several small plates and they were all amazing: the gambas al ajillo (prawns in garlic), the black rice with prawns, and the octopus with mashed sweet potato. We were too full for a main, but we will definitely be going back to try the main plates! 😂 The desserts were okay. A few things to know before you go. The bread is cold and not complimentary, at £2 a roll I think. The atmosphere is romantic, but because of the location it suits a business dinner better - literallya stone throw away from bank station. The restaurant is closed at the weekend its a shame - basically bank area is a ghost town at the weekend so its makes sense. There is also a private space upstairs that can be rented out for events, and it apparently doubles as extra seating when the restaurant is at full capacity. We spend approx £146 (glass of wine + champs) - if we had decided to line our stomachs even more with the main selection definitely an easy £250 for 2. ROBERTO the manager was lovely. He showed me around upstairs when I asked to have a look. He also gifted the birthday celebrant Hispania branded raw honey which was a highlight of the evening - thank you so much Roberto.”

“We went here for dinner in mid-2025, and it was just on a whim after an event. They managed to find us a table pretty quickly, and we were probably amongst the last orders. Good food overall, typical Spanish fare well done.”

“As good as i recall (from multiple visits pre covid). Had a great evening - and staff were super helpful accomodating a booking mix up. Definitely worth experiencing with delicious food, and a diverse wine list. Looking forward to my next visit. Thanks team Hispania for making our night so memorable.”

“We went here for dinner on a weeknight with a group of friends, and the restaurant was absolutely packed — I was very glad we made reservations in advance. From the moment we arrived, the atmosphere felt elegant, spacious, and relaxing without ever feeling stuffy. We ordered a wide variety of dishes to share. The seafood and meats were tender, juicy, and cooked perfectly. The salads had a great balance of vegetables and protein, and dressings that complemented everything without overpowering the ingredients. A standout for me was the mushroom croquettes, which were creamy and perfectly fried. We also shared the hazelnut and pistachio ice creams for dessert, and the pistachio flavor was unlike anything I’ve tasted before — rich, nutty, well-balanced, and just the right level of sweetness. We finished the evening with decaf Americanos that had a wonderfully smooth, velvety finish. We ordered a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc as well, which was crisp and fruity, though slightly sweeter than my personal preference. What really elevated the experience was the service. Everyone was polished and attentive throughout the evening. We stayed for hours catching up and never once felt rushed or pressured to leave, which made the night even more enjoyable. This is definitely more of a special occasion restaurant given the pricing, but it’s absolutely worth it for a beautiful meal, excellent service, and a relaxed, upscale atmosphere. I would happily return and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a memorable dining experience.”

“Had a wonderful experience celebrating my wife’s birthday. The Maitre D and waiting staff were excellent offering advice and recommendations for food and wine pairing and made the whole evening feel like a special occasion. The atmosphere and decor were fabulous and the food was exceptional. Can’t wait to visit again!”
