About Daylesford Organic - Brompton Cross

Daylesford Organic - Brompton Cross is an organic restaurant and farmshop at 76-82 Sloane Ave in London, supplied by Daylesford's organic farm in the Cotswolds. The restaurant is on the first floor. Breakfast there includes scrambled eggs with smoked salmon and Eggs Benedict, and the lunch menu carries a burger. The shop is on the lower level and sells Daylesford organic goods, with a butchers' counter and a fish counter for meat and fresh fish. A cheese room sits in the grocery section, and the retail side also takes in a juice and smoothie bar, a homeware shop, fresh vegetables, and handmade chutneys and preserves. Café, shop and counters share one building spread across three floors, so a meal and a grocery shop can happen under the same roof. The interior is finished in wood.

Customer Review Summary

Breakfast draws the most praise, led by scrambled eggs with smoked salmon, which one diner calls perfect as scrambled egg whites and another calls delicious. Eggs Benedict brought one visitor back two mornings running. Close behind, the burger is called the best in London by a regular, though another found it half the size of its bread. Reviewers also single out a mackerel salad, fougasse bread, lemon tart and a light sourdough pizza, along with the downstairs shop, its cheese room and its fish and meat counters. Staff are described as friendly and kind, yet complaints about service and consistency recur. One diner met a chef who refused to sear fry a sea bass instead of deep frying it. Another was assured the chicken was not dry and found it super dry, and had to ask three times for tap water top-ups. At the butcher counter, one customer ordered rump or sirloin repeatedly and received flank steak, and was told the butcher was trained to cut rump that way.

“Perhaps the shadiest grocery store in South West London. On numerous occasions I ordered rump or sirloin steak, only to receive cheap, chewy flank steak instead. When I called to ask whether it was an honest mistake, the explanation was even more astonishing. The butcher claimed he had been trained to cut rump steak that way—as if customers can’t tell the difference between flank, rump, and sirloin. This isn’t a mistake—it’s their business model.”

“I love Daylesford. It’s so hard to find a good organic, farm to table restaurant or cafe in London. I usually come here for breakfast, but this time we’re were the stay the lunch crowd. Everything tastes incredible and nearly everything is organic. For breakfast the scrambled egg whites with salmon is perfect (especially at I have an intolerance to the yolk) and the burger is the best burger in London. I’ve must have been here about 10-15 times over the last five years, going every three months (it’s a 30 minute drive).”

“We had booked in for lunch, I had their burger and my friend had their chicken. We asked before ordering if the chicken was dry and the waiter assured us it wasn’t. Well it was super dry… The burger was good but half the size of the bread. If you ask for tap water the provide you with a 200ml glass that they then are supposed to top up, well we had to ask all three times to top up our glasses. If you don’t have time to be attentive, maybe it’s better to provide carafes of water?”

“Excellent brunch at Daylesford Brompton Cross! The scrambled eggs and smoked salmon were delicious and surprisingly affordable for the area. The latte was also incredibly comforting. Love the sustainable, farm-fresh vibe here. Fun facts: Zero Waste Goal: Daylesford is one of the most sustainable farms in the UK. They aim for zero waste, using everything from their Gloucestershire farm—even the "ugly" veg goes into their soups and juices. • The "Bamford" Connection: The cafe was founded by Carole Bamford, who is a pioneer in organic farming and also the force behind the luxury Bamford Wellness brand. • The Real Deal: All the eggs and salmon you ate likely came straight from their own 2,500-acre organic farm in the Cotswolds, which has been organic for over 40 years! The cafe and bakery also houses a grocery store, home store and cellar. The cheese room is also neat addition to the grocery section!”

“We loved this charming little café so much that we ended up eating here twice and both times for breakfast. Daylesford Organic prides itself on using fresh, high-quality ingredients sourced from the Cotswolds, and you can truly taste the difference. Each morning I ordered the delicious Eggs Benedict, which never disappointed. The café was also beautifully decorated for the holiday season, adding to its warm and cozy atmosphere. Before leaving, we enjoyed browsing the lower level shop, where we found lovely gifts to take home, the perfect ending to a wonderful experience. A must-visit for great food, charming ambiance, and thoughtful local touches.”
