About The Ivy Asia Chelsea

The Ivy Asia Chelsea is an Asian restaurant in London at 203A King's Rd, open daily. A live DJ plays at dinner, and drinks and dishes are served with dry-ice theatrics. Guests who want to watch the kitchen can sit at the sushi counter beside the chef, while sofa seats, tables and a bar offer other places to settle in. The multi-course experience menu moves through a sushi course and finishes with dessert. Individual plates include miso-marinated cod, and the cherry blossom lychee martini is one of the cocktails. Vegetarian and plant-based options sit alongside the rest of the menu. The decor follows an Asian theme that carries through to the toilets. A special set menu marks Chelsea in Bloom.

Customer Review Summary

The decor is what reviewers raise most, calling it stunning and gorgeous, right down to toilets decorated in an Asian theme, with dry ice adding a touch to the meal. The food earns close praise, and diners name the miso-marinated cod, a keralan chickpea and aubergine curry, yellowtail, shrimp popcorn and miso aubergine. One reviewer also enjoyed a cherry blossom lychee martini that arrived with theatrics. Two reviewers describe the tasting or experience menu as many courses ending in ice cream, and another found the Samurai dessert came in huge portions. Staff are repeatedly called friendly and attentive, and one diner liked the live DJ for a Thursday dinner. The sharpest complaint comes from a birthday diner who found the sushi fish tiny, the chicken satay tasting of seasoning powder and the prawn toast soaked in grease. That diner cancelled the mains and noted no birthday acknowledgment. Another reviewer notes long pauses between courses in a half empty room. A separate birthday lunch ended with candles on the dessert platter.

“Really disappointing experience, especially for a birthday dinner. The sushi was a huge letdown—the fish in the pieces was tiny, compared to photos in other reviews could barely taste it. The chicken satay didn’t taste like satay at all, more like it had been marinated in seasoning powder, prawn toast soaked in grease, canceled mains as the mood was ruined. Ironically, the best thing we had was the edamame. There was no birthday acknowledgment despite the occasion, and the service was average overall, although one waitress at the end was genuinely kind and helpful.”

“Wow! From the moment you step inside you are surrounded by the most gorgeous decor. Even the toilets were decorated with the Asian theme. Then there is the food which was delicious all with an Asian flair. We had a special set menu to choose from to mark Chelsea in bloom which meant two courses for under £25 which was great value. The staff were all welcoming, friendly & knowledgeable. Can’t wait to try the other Ivy Asia’s in London.”

“Wow to the decor and food. We had the experience menu and for £65 each we thought it was great value. Considering you'd easily pay 25 for an average steak anywhere. Lots of courses, each one amazing and the ice cream at the end! I wish I could make it. Various seating options, we had the comfy sofa seats but you can sit near chef at a counter too, which looked fun. I'm a bit short and old for bar stools though. Have attached pics of sushi course and pudding. Think 5 courses. You can see menus online. Will definitely go again. Staff were so sweet.”
