About Al Arez
Al Arez is a Lebanese restaurant in London at 5 Harrington Rd, with chandeliers lighting the dining room. The menu covers mezze and grilled dishes, and the chicken shawarma comes as a plate with rice or with hummus and chips. Garlic sauce is served with the shawarma. A platter for two gives couples and pairs a way to share across the menu. Shawarma and kofte also appear as sandwiches, which makes a lighter order possible. Meals finish with complimentary baklava or sweets.

Customer Review Summary
Chicken shawarma is the dish reviewers raise most, and opinions split sharply: one diner calls it juicy and pairs it with praise for the garlic sauce, another enjoyed the plate with hummus and chips, while a third found the chicken dry, chewy and unseasoned with clumpy rice and little garnish. Close behind, generous portions and friendly, quick service come up repeatedly, along with the mezze, grilled dishes, kofte sandwiches and fresh orange juice. Complimentary baklava or other sweets are mentioned by several reviewers, and one notes blankets offered at the outdoor tables. The complaints are specific. One family describes a staff member challenging their order size, and says the lemonade and strawberry juices tasted of syrup despite being listed as fresh. Others mention rushed service, tight seating, water in a plastic cup, and a greasy smell that left one group's clothes smelling bad. One reviewer found the meat's spice simple, and another called the food good, not great. The free baklava at the end of the meal is what several diners recall last.

“Excellent food and service! The shawarma was juicy and delicious, and the garlic sauce was amazing. The fresh orange juice was great too. The staff were incredibly kind and generous, even giving me complimentary sweets and extra items. Everyone was friendly and helpful. Highly recommend. I will definitely be coming back again!😋”

“Ordered their chicken shawarma plate with rice. Sadly, it was a major letdown. This dish was far from authentic shawarma. The chicken had literally no flavor or seasoning, and it was extremely dry and chewy. The rice was dry and clumpy. It came with just a few bits of lettuce and pickle as garnish — barely anything. For a Lebanese restaurant, this fell well short on basics like proper seasoning, tenderness, and texture. Everything tasted bland and poorly prepared.”

“We visited Al Arez after a trip to the History Museum before heading home. It was a busy Saturday and most places nearby were packed, but they still made space for us and offered a table straight away. The food was amazing with great taste, brilliant flavours and very generous portions. Service was friendly and efficient throughout, and we were even given complimentary baklava at the end which was a really nice touch. Prices were also reasonable considering the South Kensington location. Overall a great experience and somewhere I would happily return to.”

“While the food here is undoubtedly good, the service we received was incredibly disappointing. The staff member taking our order was exceptionally rude, specifically questioning and challenging our order size. We were a party of two adults and four children, and we ordered four sandwiches and four juices—which was perfectly sufficient for our needs, with the intention of ordering more later if necessary. Being pressured and confronted to order more was highly unprofessional and completely ruined our dining experience. Lemonade juice - says fresh on the menu, however it tasted full of syrup. Strawberry juice - says fresh, tasted high on sugar. Ayran Yogurt - full marks Chicken shawarma - huge and chunky. Taste - average. Kofte sandwiches - good decent size for the price. Taste - nice. Good.”

“Great authentic Lebanese restaurant. The menu is full of delicious options, and the seating area looks inviting with wonderful decorations. The service was very friendly, I appreciated the extra dessert they offered. Will come back on my next visit.”
