About Chai Kadai East Ham
Chai Kadai East Ham is a Kerala restaurant at 379-381 High St N in East Ham, London, built around an unlimited vegetarian set buffet of Kerala dishes. Diners choose basmati or matta rice with the buffet, and optional non-veg add-ons, including prawn fry and beef roast, extend the meal for those who want fish or meat. Away from the buffet, the kitchen makes mathi porotta and serves traditional chai. The menu also covers Indo-Arabic, Sri Lankan and seafood dishes, so the choice runs beyond Kerala cooking. Banqueting facilities are available, and a party hall hosts celebrations and functions for groups.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the service, with one server repeatedly praised as friendly and attentive, though the food draws just as much comment. The vegetarian set buffet earns the most detail, with homely cooked dishes, a choice of basmati or matta rice, payasam, and non veg add-ons such as prawn fry, beef roast, squid and fish fry cooked fresh. Close behind, diners praise the traditional tea for its rich texture and flavour, and the Mathi and Pothi Porotta. Others mention an unlimited meal, ice cream and desserts, and a spacious hall that hosted a communion reception for 60 guests. The main complaint comes from one regular who found the porotta hard from reheating on the thava, the shawaya chicken dry, and fresh juice served with plenty of ice after asking for none. One reviewer also notes the busy high street makes parking difficult. Even so, one guest was served jeera water when asking for hot water for a sore throat.

“We had a wonderful experience at Chaya Kadayi, East Ham. The service was excellent, and the staff were very friendly and attentive, especially Surya and another staff member from Malappuram (I think his name was Latheef). The traditional tea was amazing—its rich texture and flavour were simply marvellous. We ordered the Mathi and Pothi Porotta, and both dishes were absolutely delicious. The food presentation was excellent, and we didn't have to wait long for our order. The restaurant was clean, spacious, and well maintained. I also requested some hot water because of my sore throat, and they kindly served me jeera (cumin) water instead, which was a thoughtful gesture that I really appreciated. A huge thank you to the chef behind these delicious dishes. Your cooking was exceptional, and every bite reflected your skill, passion, and dedication. We truly enjoyed the food and appreciate all the hard work that goes into preparing such authentic and tasty meals. Thank you to the entire team for your warm hospitality and excellent service. Wishing you all the very best for the future. Keep up the fantastic work!”

“We went here recently and was served by Aaditha who explained everything and gave us an excellent fast service. We went for the vegetarian set buffet (this is only currently available between 12pm-3pm) which had all homely cooked food and everything was so tasty. This is the first time we have visited a Kerala restaurant anywhere with a vegetarian buffet service and we weren’t disappointed!! You can also order non veg add-ons with the vegetarian buffet a selection of prawns fry, beef roast , squid and fish fry (see menu in photo) which are on display with masala already on it ready to be cooked fresh within 10 minutes of ordering it. You can choose between 2 types of rice with the vegetarian buffet - basmati or matta rice. Payasam is also available with the buffet or other desserts are available on the menu if you prefer. The food was very tasty and delicious overall. This restaurant must be visited if you love your authentic Kerala food with fast efficient service from the staff. The atmosphere is very cosy with plenty of seating at the rear of the restaurant. The only downside is the location as it is in a busy high street and car parking is a problem as it is all residential parking only but we managed to find a paid parking bay to a road adjacent to the restaurant. Apologies for not taking any photos of our dining experience as we were so hungry to tuck into our food!! Thank you guys for a wonderful service and a memorable experience and compliments to the chefs !!”

“We had our son's First Holy Communion reception with 60 guests. We spent there from 6:30 to 10:30 in the evening. With the help of the friendly staffs you can make your own party. Atmosphere of the party hall is peaceful and enjoyable. Foods are delicious and the service standards are very good.”
