Customer Review Summary
Lamb mandi is the dish reviewers raise most, described as tender, juicy and perfectly spiced, with portions generous enough that diners say one plate of rice is shared between two. Close behind is the Haneeth, called exceptionally tender and full of flavour even though one reviewer notes it was not cooked in a traditional tannour, with delicious sahawiq alongside. Chicken is called zesty, and the Adeni tea and house tea draw praise. Staff are described as friendly, welcoming and kind, and several call the room warm and homely, with shared trays and traditional carpet seating suited to families. The complaints are small. One reviewer found the mandi missing a smoky aroma and extra punch, and wanted the tea sweeter. Another noted the menu is entirely in English, and one asked for more sides such as tahini. A few reviewers also describe the waiter offering more rice whenever the table needed it.

“Since 2007, I have not found a single restaurant in Britain—including Sheffield, which has a large Yemeni community—that serves Haneeth and Mandi in the truly authentic style found in their countries of origin. I do not believe this reflects a lack of culinary skill. Rather, I suspect that British health and safety regulations may not permit the traditional underground tannour (clay oven), or there may be other practical reasons of which I am unaware. That said, Al Yemen Restaurant on Edgware Road is undoubtedly one of the best places I have found for Yemeni meat dishes. I ordered the Haneeth during my visit on 12 July 2026. Although it was not cooked in a traditional tannour, the meat was exceptionally tender, juicy, and full of flavour. The rice was perfectly cooked, the sahawiq (spicy Yemeni salsa) was delicious with just the right amount of heat, the tea was excellent, and the staff were warm, welcoming, and courteous. Overall, it was an outstanding dining experience. If I were to mention one drawback, it would be the absence of Arabic from the menu. Ironically, the only Arabic appears in the restaurant’s name, “مطعم اليمن” (“Al Yemen Restaurant”), and in the welcoming phrase, “مرحباً بكم في المذاق اليمني الأصيل” (“Welcome to the authentic Yemeni taste”). These phrases proudly celebrate the restaurant’s Yemeni identity, yet the menu itself is entirely in English. A bilingual Arabic–English menu would better reflect the restaurant’s cultural heritage and offer a more authentic experience. Despite this minor criticism, I highly recommend Al Yemen Restaurant to anyone looking for excellent Yemeni cuisine in London. It is, in my experience, one of the finest Yemeni restaurants in Britain. 🌹”

“Authentic Yemeni food, generous portions and delicious flavour I visited Al Yemen on Edgware Road and was really impressed. The food is authentic and full of flavour. I ordered the lamb mandi, it was incredibly tender, juicy, and perfectly spiced. The portion was very generous, I shared one plate with my adult son, and it was more than enough for both of us. If you're looking for genuine Yemeni cuisine in London, I strongly recommend this place. Great value, warm atmosphere, and truly satisfying food. I'll definitely be coming back.”

“Al Yemen truly stands out as a culinary gem, offering an experience that's both authentic and incredibly satisfying. From the moment you step inside, you're greeted with the promise of genuine Yemeni cuisine, and it absolutely delivers. Every dish we tried was not just delicious, but tasted exactly how authentic Yemeni food should, bursting with rich flavors and prepared with care. The quality of the food alone makes it a must-visit, but the experience is elevated even further by the wonderful team working there. The staff were genuinely helpful, making sure we had everything we needed and answering any questions we had about the menu. Their attentiveness and friendly demeanor made our meal even more enjoyable. Overall, Al Yemen offers a fantastic dining experience that combines top-tier authentic food with outstanding service. If you're looking for a place where both the delicious dishes and the amazing staff leave a lasting positive impression, this is definitely it.”

“My experience overall was fantastic . Food was very good. Everything was nice . 4 stars because there was something missing! The Yemeni Feeling which I look for at any Yemeni restaurant the music the noise the shouting but yeah all was good. They are generous with their food seriously you will have to share a plate of rice. We had Mandi lamb and Mandi chicken . Everything was okay but something was missing the smokey aroma and the extra punch of flavours on the rice but it didnt go far its still a Mandi dish . The Adeni tea was good except missing more sugar I got a sweet tooth. The crew thats a 5 star the entire crew very kind, attentive and detail oriented 5 star service love it. See you guys soon .”
