About La mia Mamma Notting Hill

La mia Mamma Notting Hill is an Italian restaurant at 190 Kensington Park Rd in Notting Hill, London, where the cooking is led by the mamma herself. She cooks in the kitchen and visits tables during the evening. Both a regional menu and an a la carte menu are served throughout opening hours, so guests can choose either at any point in the day. Pasta includes a pistachio pesto dish, which is also made in a gluten-free and dairy-free version. One of the founders makes desserts live in the dining room, which lets guests watch the sweet course come together. The dessert list includes tiramisu and a salame di cioccolato made for sharing.

Customer Review Summary

Reviewers most often describe La Mia Mamma as feeling like an Italian family's home, with the founding cook visiting tables and one diner watching desserts being made in real time. The pistachio pesto pasta, which one diner enjoyed in dairy free and gluten free versions, and a cacio e pepe called ridiculous stand out among the mains. Others name tuna tartare, sea bream cooked in paper and lamb served in a pan. Close behind, desserts draw praise, including a tiramisu so generous it was taken away to share the next day and a salame di cioccolato. Servers are described as attentive but not overbearing, and a couple of visitors call it their favorite meal of a London trip. One reviewer, however, reports a rude, unresponsive staff member, an excessively long wait for the main course and food that was only okay. One diner suggests reserving for a Friday night. Another recalls a staff member handing over a small cup of milk free of charge at midnight.

“Tasty food ! Sea bream potatoes tomatoes cooked in paper so nice. Along with lamb potatoes served in a pan! Tastiest by far. Ended with a sharing Italian Salame di cioccolato for dessert just the best”

“We visited this restaurant expecting a pleasant dining experience, but were met with poor service and unprofessional conduct. The food was okay, but the overall experience was unacceptable. The staff, specifically a staff member described as an Italian blonde lady, was rude, unprofessional, and unresponsive. The wait for the main course was excessively long, and the service failed to meet basic standards. This experience was the opposite of what we hoped for. We will not return. I won't recommend this restaurant and we will never go back!”

“We were staying nearby and needed milk at midnight mid-week. Everything was closed. The blonde haired lady working here was so welcoming and helpful and gave us a small takeaway coffee cup of milk free of charge. We will definitely come have a meal some day soon! Thank you. Friendly atmosphere for sure! And the food looked great at other diner’s tables”

“Simply wonderful restaurant, atmosphere and staff. We went for a meal but left with so much more because this was a great experience not only for our bellies but also for our souls and hearts. Alba made us feel like home from the beginning and it was really difficult to leave after all the amazing care and attention that we received from her. We also experienced Miro's excellent service, hospitality and professionalism. But the 'pistachio on top' was watching one of the founder ladies making deserts in real time. We've tried many Italian restaurants around London, but I can definitely confirm that there is no other like La mia mamma. So much authenticity, warmth and delicious choices. This is not just a restaurant but a peaceful place with well prepared Italian food, wonderful people and homey atmosphere.”

“A perfect place if you love authentic Italian food, only the second place I've had ciangale in London that tastes like it does in Rome (la dolce vita Teddington is the other). The bread delicious, aricino cacio Pepe was ridiculous. This whole concept is amazing, well done for such an amazing restaurant 🙏”
