Customer Review Summary

Lamb chops are the dish reviewers return to most, described as juicy, thick cut and well cooked, with the butter chicken, aloo chaat and poppadom basket with chutneys close behind. Others single out the Goan prawn curry, the paneer dishes and a mango rice pudding. Several call the lunch set menu great value, and one reviewer suggests ordering a la carte for anyone unsure what they like. Service is widely described as friendly and knowledgeable. The mixed reviews describe a different pace, though: starters arriving within minutes, plates cleared before dishes were finished, and far too much food recommended for two. Others found the curry sauces generic and similar to one another, the bread basket muted and the tables close together. The mango lassi split opinion, one reviewer calling it fresh and not overly sweet, another finding it lacking depth. Reviewers marking a celebration describe a small dessert, champagne or a signed postcard from the team, and one says the chef made a chicken biryani that was not on the menu.

“Incredible experience. We were well taken care of. Every detail thought out. Come open minded and let the staff give you suggestions. You won't be disappointed. Also pro-tip. If you're going to have wine with dinner but cocktails first, ask for the bottle to be delivered to the table and opened so that it has time to breathe. ALL the cocktails were incredibly crafted. There were 5 of us and we each had a different one and they all were, by far, the best cocktails on this trip.”

“Well deserving of its Michelin Star status. Standout dishes were the aloo chaat, kid goat methi keema and butter chicken. Taz was an excellent waitress who provided exceptional recommendations including the dessert. Every team member was friendly and knowledgeable. The upstairs booths are an ideal spot for lunch and the decor was sophisticated and elegant. Lunch provides not only a set menu option but à la carte was available as well. Highly recommend Gymkhana, you won’t be disappointed.”

“The best meal in London!! The chef made a chicken biryani for us when it wasn’t even on the menu. My mango lassi was so fresh and not overpoweringly sweet. The food is super filling, and if you like nonveg indian food, this is the place to be! Our servers were so kind, Kishore was an absolute delight & the front desk had a space to keep our bags which is so appreciated. Will be back”

“We booked Gymkhana months in advance for lunch with our best friends and, after reading so many mixed reviews beforehand, we deliberately kept our expectations low. Thankfully, we had a really enjoyable meal overall. There were four of us. Two chose the £75 lunch tasting menu, while the other two ordered a selection of dishes from the à la carte menu. The lunch menu is excellent value for the variety and quantity of food you receive, and I’d definitely recommend it if you’re visiting for the first time. The standout dishes were, without question, the lamb chops (beautifully cooked with impressively thick cuts), the chicken tikka, and the spicy fried chicken pieces in tamarind sauce. Unexpectedly, one of the highlights was actually the poppadom basket and chutneys – an excellent variety, all fresh and full of flavour. The only dishes that fell a little short for us were the curries and samosas. Our group is of mixed African and Indian heritage, so perhaps we’re naturally more critical when it comes to Indian food. The quality of the meat and seafood was outstanding and everything was cooked perfectly, but we found many of the curry sauces quite generic. Several dishes seemed to share a very similar base, making them less distinctive than we expected from a Michelin-starred restaurant. Likewise, while the chutneys were enjoyable, some appeared to be variations built from the same core recipes. The mocktails and mango lassi were also disappointing. We visited during Alphonso mango season, so we were expecting a rich, vibrant mango flavour, but both drinks lacked depth and freshness. We ordered generously – everything from the lamb shank rogan josh to prawn curries – and our bill came to around £400–£500 for four people, including the 15% service charge. We certainly didn’t leave hungry and enjoyed trying such a wide range of dishes. I completely appreciate restaurant margins and the costs involved in operating at this level, but for the price, I was hoping for a little more variety in the sauces and flavours across the menu. Our waiter was excellent throughout the meal: attentive, knowledgeable and friendly. However, the experience ended rather abruptly. There wasn’t a goodbye as we left, nor any small complimentary gesture such as sweets, chocolates, mints or tea. It’s a small touch, but after spending several hundred pounds at a Michelin-starred restaurant, those details help create a memorable finish. Overall, I’m pleased we’ve experienced Gymkhana—it was definitely worth ticking off our London dining list. Would I rush back? Probably not, simply because London has so many exceptional restaurants still to explore. If you are visiting, I’d strongly recommend ordering at least two portions of the lamb chops, a couple of the grilled tikkas, the poppadoms and chutneys (not the watered down yogurt and mint chutney) and taking advantage of the lunch tasting menu. That’s where I think the best value lies and where the restaurant really shines.”

“We had a wonderful lunch at Gymkhana for our anniversary and really enjoyed the whole experience. The food was excellent, with the Goan prawn curry being a real standout, it was absolutely amazing and full of flavour. A special mention must go to Lloyi, who served us. He was incredibly attentive, friendly and went out of his way to make sure we were well looked after throughout the meal. His service really added to the experience and made our visit feel special. Thank you for a lovely meal, we’ll definitely be recommending Gymkhana.”
