Dishoom Covent Garden
Quick info
About Dishoom Covent Garden
Dishoom Covent Garden is an Indian restaurant on Upper St Martin's Lane in London, serving Indian street food in a setting shaped by Bombay-style design with vintage decor. The owner describes it as a buzzy destination, and the room pairs period details with an elevated finish that gives the street-food focus a more polished frame. Much of the menu's range comes from its broad selection of mains, with dishes spanning from smaller plates to larger offerings across a wide price spread. The kitchen leans into robustly spiced, deeply seasoned plates that draw on the flavours of Indian street stalls, with house-made chutneys and sauces adding sharp, tangy contrast to many of the dishes. Reservations are advised, as the central location and lively atmosphere draw steady demand throughout the day.

Customer Review Summary
Diners consistently single out the chicken ruby as the standout dish, with several calling it the best butter chicken they have ever had and one reviewer noting a single order is generous enough to share between two people. The okra fries and garlic naan come up repeatedly as popular picks, and the Alphonso mango dessert earns praise as well. The chai latte draws repeated mention for its authentic sweet then spicy character, and free chai or tea for those queuing is a frequently noted touch. Service is described as friendly, fast and attentive across multiple reviews, and one diner mentions a complimentary molten chocolate cake for a birthday. The vegetarian selection is praised as great, though a couple of reviewers note the food can lean salty and portions feel small for the price. Several describe long queues without a reservation, particularly on Friday nights and around peak times, and suggest booking ahead or arriving early to avoid the wait.

“Recommended to try at least once on your trip! Tasty and flavourful indian cuisine - different from the usual. We were on a vegetarian diet that evening and there's a great selection of vegetarian options available. Although it may lean towards the saltier side. For people who prefer less sodium in your diets, yoy may wish to try requesting for less salt and see if it could be accommodated. Great service as well! The server presented us with a complimentary molten chocolate cake as it was my birthday. Thankful for the kind gesture!”

“Ok the important things , you can book after 6 pm provided the group is 6 people or more. Around 7 to 8 pm on a Friday night at least , the wait for the restaurant is 25-30 minutes. Free tea is served at random for the queueing customers. The restaurant is on 2 floors , each floor is huge . The lower floor seems the more quiet part. The whole place is very busy but buzzing with good vibes and atmosphere. An army of well organized servers are constantly around cleaning serving and taking orders. Indeed our server was a well spoken knowledgeable gentleman. The menu is a moderate size , a good selection of everything. The food itself was one of the best experiences of Indian food I've ever had , and I've been to a lot of places in the UK and india . The spice levels are fortunately catered for the Indian palate . So westerners beware lol Toilets were very nicely decorated and very clean , a bit oldly worldy in design You must at least try this restaurant once in your life! I'll definitely come back here.”

“Dishoom was recommended by a few people, and it is worth it! We didn’t make reservations, we got in line and they said it would be about 25 minutes, and they passed out chai to those waiting in line. Actual wait was just about 30 minutes, …”
