About Gunpowder Soho
Gunpowder Soho is an Indian restaurant in London at 20 Greek St, built around sharing small plates. The kitchen cooks from family recipes with a modern approach and sources its ingredients responsibly. Dishes arrive on a rolling basis, one or two plates at a time, so tables order several and build the meal as it goes. The venison and vermicelli doughnut is a sharing plate that guests order often, and the grilled mustard broccoli (Sigree) sits alongside it on the menu. Saffron and jeera pilau rice is available as an accompaniment. Dessert includes an Old Monk rum bread and butter pudding. A set menu is offered, and the restaurant is open daily.

Customer Review Summary
The venison and vermicelli doughnut is the dish diners name most, called a flavour bomb and recommended alongside the soft shell crab, though one reviewer found it difficult to eat, with vermicelli stuck in the teeth and a sauce too spicy. Close behind are the grilled mustard broccoli, the lamb chop and the rasam bomb, with the Old Monk rum bread and butter pudding praised at dessert. Several came for the January anniversary menu and describe a cozy room with live piano. Complaints include small lamb chop and crab portions, a watery beef curry, and one group's lost table booking, a rude waiter, and soft shell crab refused to one diner while later arrivals received three servings. Staff otherwise draw praise, including a waitress who removed the service charge for students at their request.

“Welcome surprise to try their set menu. Quite filling and good bang for your buck. Great atmosphere and last but not least, Siddharaj was very accommodating to ensure our allergen concerns were met. Worth checking out when you are in London.”

“Came for a friend's birthday and we decided to have the set menu. This was really good value for the amount of food we got. We were stuffed before the last course even came. My favourite was the tandoori chicken and prawn toast. Only slight disappointment was the beef curry which I thought was a bit watery and lacking in spice (both flavour and heat). Service excellent, would definitely recommend.”

“Absolutely loved the dinner here. Visited with friends for a celebration dinner. Every dish was beautifully crafted and packed with an incredible blast of flavours. The variety and presentation truly showcase Indian food at its best. A must-visit for anyone looking for a unique culinary experience and top-notch taste! Must try their Beetroot Croquettes and Old Monk Rum bread & butter pudding.”

“Very nice snacks and dessert. Ordered the potato chaat with was flavourful with creamy yoghurt and sweet tamarind. The okra fries were also very good, well marinated, crunchy and not too oily. The masala chai chocolate cake was very good, with a decadent melting middle and a well spiced custard. However it would have been good with more custard. The service was great with cheerful and friendly staff, and the ambience was refined and cozy. Would recommend coming this January as they are doing a significantly reduced price menu.”

“I went to Gunpowder for dinner with a large group. There were seven tables booked but one had been lost in the system. As it was a very busy night it caused a lot of problems trying to accommodate the missing table. It eventually got sorted but it caused a very stressful start to the evening which resulted in several complaints about one of the waiters who was rather rude. The other staff members were much more helpful. I ordered soft shell crab but I was told there was none available but the rest of my party that arrived later managed to get 3 servings of the crab. This was rather disappointing. The food in general was okay. I was not wowed by anything in particular. The restaurant was very cosy but smaller than I expected. Overall, my favourite item was the dessert of the rum pudding. I may have to go back to see whether I get a better experience.”
